Tick-tock...you're late for your appointment. Tick-tock... the person in front of you is driving too slow. Tick-tock... your friend just texted you asking you where you are. Tick-tock... you’re racing the clock. Tick-tock... you have to answer that snapchat you just received. Tick-tock... CRASH. Didn’t expect that one coming, did you? Nobody expects it to be them. Everyone thinks they are the master of swerving through traffic or texting and driving… until it happens to you.
How come we are always racing the clock, until it’s too late, until the clock stops ticking. We are pushing it to the end, sometimes we just take it too far. Pushing it to the limit, is not a good idea.
Suddenly, you hear this ringing in your ear, it's no longer your phone, it's the trauma you went through. The car that was going "too slow" for you is still going on it’s way. Your friend that snapchatted or texted you is still waiting for that reply, but you can't move. You are trapped in your anger and pain. Your friend texts you again. They just wanted to know if you're almost there, well now they texted you again and again. If you can’t tell, they have now gotten worried. The simplest things can stop you from getting where you want to go, so why let it happen. The distractions are endless and we all give in.
Trust me, everyone would much rather have you there in one place than in a hospital. But, aren't you so happy that you got this crash on snapchat because you were trying to answer your friend. isn't that great!?
Hear those sirens? Yes, those are real, unlike the ringing you hear. Someone actually called for you. How come we have to be taught a lesson the hard way before we actually understand the consequences of our actions. We have to open our eyes. Driving reckless is not a good idea. Neither is texting and driving or snapchatting. It is so much better to arrive to your distance in one piece, safe and sound.
You are entering the ambulance, the EMT says "don't worry, you're going to be fine," but are you? You just went through a trauma, will you learn your lesson? Life is a precious thing, too fragile to let it go. They then ask you, “anyone you would like to call,” but who do you think of, who do you want to tell that you just crashed and it was your fault. You don’t respond because of the shock and embarrassment running through your veins.
So, let's put your phone down and practice your patience, because your life and the people around you are so much more important than getting somewhere in such a rush. Maybe practice good time management so you don't have to rush? Riding someone's butt while driving isn't going to solve your problems, it will just make matters worse. The response to that text isn't going to change from however many minutes longer your drive it. Why risk our short lives for the simplest reason. You are better off showing up late than not showing up at all. I really don't think an appointment is worth your life or the people around you either.
Life is too short and important to risk it all.
