Marriage is the legally recognized union of a man and a woman. But some women in foreign countries tend to fool men carrying US passports or green cards into marrying them under the pretense of love. In fact, those women use marriages as a ploy to acquire their green cards. This is a true love story that is based on deception and reminiscent of the movie: fatal attraction.
Louis Martin had been living in the United States for many years. Because of his deteriorating health, he went back to Haiti for treatment. Louis’s sickness consists of vomiting and diarrhea. He lived in a remote part of Borgne, Haiti where Verone George, a next door neighbor, offered to help him. She cooked, cleaned and ensured that Louis was well taken care of. She provided her service to Louis at no charge every day for three months.
After three months of sickness, Louis recuperated and returned to Fort-Lauderdale, Florida. Out of gratitude, he kept in touch with Verone. Sometimes, he sent her money transfer and other gifts. It was simply a platonic relationship until suddenly, bang! Louis fell in love for her. He recalled that Verone was considerate enough to take good care of him while he was sick. Likewise, he thought she was possibly good enough to be his wife. Louis immediately proposed to Verone who consented right away. A couple of months later, Louis flew back to Haiti and married her around Christmas of 2003. They had a small and informal wedding ceremony.
A few days after the wedding, Louis returned to the United States. Right away, he filled out the immigration papers for his new wife. Within three months, his wife received the approval notice from the immigration. And ten months into the process, Verone also received a letter from the US Consul for an interview. She passed it. A week later, she left Haiti for the United States. After an hour and a half flight, she landed into Fort-Lauderdale airport and was finally reunited with Louis.
It is every man’s dream to have a virtuous wife. But beware! The heart of a woman is sometimes tortuous. In their choice of women, men often look at females' appearances. They fall in love at first sight, oblivious of those women's prime agenda. But the real person is hidden inside a shell; thereby transcending men’s ability to see through. So far, everything went well with the marriage; however, as soon as Verone received the green card in the mail, she turned nasty to Louis. She hated everything about the poor guy. She told Louis that he was not man enough to shine her shoes, let alone to be her husband. One day, Louis went to work and returned to an empty home. Verone had deserted him.
As she was fleeing, she emptied Louis’s bank account. What’s worse is that she took off with an ex-boyfriend who happened to be her husband's own cousin, Senatus Jean. They settled down in Jacksonville, Florida, which is quite a distance from Fort-Lauderdale. Before long, her boyfriend wasted all the money Verone took from Louis. After six months of partying, they ran out of money. For this reason, Senatus left Verone the same way she did Louis. Now “what goes around comes around." Currently, Verone found herself in a dilemma where she had no husband and no boyfriend. She had tried in vain to play some tricks to get Louis to take her back. Instead, Louis, furious, cursed her out.
Women who know what they want to extract from men would always pretend to look suitable for them. After all, Verone had shown her true color. Once she was in possession of her green card, her objective was fulfilled. Therefore, it was time for her to leave her husband. Again, men, beware! Louis has been duped and realized that “a look that led to an evening. A mistake he'll regret...for the rest of his life,” Taglines.
