Women Athletes... People Too?

Rio 2016 may just be the most sexist games yet!!

I will be the first to say, I love watching the Olympics. I mean who doesn't love watching running, twirling, and canoeing for 16 days straight? In 1900, the white men running the world decided: “hey let’s let some women compete, why not!” One hundred and sixteen years later, and twenty nine Olympic games later, those same men undoubtedly believe that they are standing behind their magnanimous decision to let women to compete, but instead, sexism is more blatant now than ever. Lets take a look at how respected women athletes are!

1. Thank god Hungary's Katinka Hosszu's husband swam her race for her!!

Oh wait, I do believe it was her that broke the 400 meter world record. I don't think I saw anyone else in the pool?? did you??

2. Congrats to the "Wife of Bears' lineman" on her bronze medal!

is that her given name? I thought it was Corey Cogdell?

3. Yeah Gaby Douglas has won a few medals, done some impressive flips and what not, but what about her hair??

Like, what about her hair? She's one of the greatest athletes of our time, male or female.

4. Katie Ledecky finished 11 seconds ahead of her competition in the 800 meter freestyle, good for a girl I guess.

According to commentator, Rowdy Gaines "a lot of people think she swims like a man.” Im sorry what man has beat their competition by 11 seconds?? In any sport??

5. Hey women watching the games, you must be watching for the drama, since you can't possibly be interested in the athletics!!!

Hey John Miller, if I wanted to see some drama, I would tune into Bravo. Thanks tho!

6. Sarah Sjostrom may swim, Sarah Sjostrom may break her own records, but... does Sarah Sjostrom samba?

I am sorry but when is the last time a commentator asked a man to do a sexy dance instead of just congratulating them on their win?

7. Live from the Olympics, 5 incredible gymnasts gossip on side lines in between winning routines. Commentator is confused, is this the olympics or a gossip sesh at the local mall!

Here is the real question, was Simone Biles talking about winning all around, or if Nordstrom changed location in the Rio mall?!?!

8. You know what is more important what commentator Helen Skelton has to say, her mini dress!

Totally agreed Brian, 100% do not stay tuned to watch some of the most incredible athletes in the world compete!!!

9. Update now: According to BBC, women's Judo shall now be renamed, women's "classic catfight".

Forget skill, hours in the gym, and being an incredible athlete, women are born knowing how to catfight?? right??

10. Just in: Dana Vollmer giving birth might actually be more impressive than her winning an olympic medal!!!

Dana Vollmer was an amazing swimmer four years ago, but thank god she had a baby in between Olympics. Her outstanding athletic abilities would have certainly not been enough for her to make headlines!! WAIT. WOMEN CAN GIVE BIRTH AND DO SPORTS??

11. The women's basketball team is so good, that it's actually not good for basketball as a whole! God I hate it my country's Olympic teams do really well.

Don't you wish Michael Phelps just swam a LITTLE slower????

12. Last but not least, we have possibly the most offensive of them all. Lesbian Volleyball star Larissa França's partner called her husband!! Nice Chris Marlowe!!

Hey at least Larissa's husband/wife/partner didn't win her medal for her I guess!!

It is time we start celebrating these women athletes, for the amazing athletes they are. Not what they wear, who they are married too, their sexual orientations, or what they look like. #GRLPWR

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
