A Woman Is A Woman's Best Friend

So stop looking for reasons to tear each other down.

A Woman Is A Woman's Best Friend

One of the biggest problems that I see from day to day is the way that women constantly work to tear other women down. We look for all sorts of reasons to degrade each other and then turn around preaching feminist ideals and how women should stick together. Feminism is the advocacy of women’s rights on the grounds of political, social, and economic equality to men; it is not the right for women to hurt each other in order to make themselves look or feel better in front of men. It's hard enough having to fight everyday for equal opportunities to men, why do we have to make it more difficult by constantly fighting each other?

Nowadays, the paradigm of a modern day feminist is built upon a woman who has to degrade other women to give herself the power and confidence to then find reasons to complain about men. In a world where everything seems to be against us, we need to be there for each other in order to fight for all of the rights we are denied.

When a skinny artist writes a song about having confidence in her figure, we go and complain about how it's wrong that a size 0 preach about body image. But then another woman will sing a song all about self confidence for thicker women that purposely excludes the opportunity for thinner girls to feel good about their body image as well. We shouldn't focus on debasing the body type that we don't have, rather we should be supporting each other and working to boost everybody's self confidence, not tearing anyone down.

When a girl doesn't see herself in a relationship and she chooses to not be serious with men, that's her own decision to make. If she likes being with different people, instead of staying with one person for a long period of time, it is in no way the right of anyone else to shame her for that decision. We each have the right to choose for ourselves what makes us most comfortable and happy. What we don't have, is the right to make fun of or hurt other people because the decision that they make isn't one that you would make for yourself.

We have to be there for each other because the world is already set to be against us. We complain about each other and we complain about men, that's a hell of a lot of complaining if you ask me. Let's cut the bitchiness and be each other's friends. If you see a girl going for a guy, cheer her on, tell her she looks great. If you see someone who has contoured makeup, compliment her on her technique, because God knows how difficult that is. Support each other, don't degrade each other.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
