If you're as much of a Potterhead as I am, you've probably been overwhelmed by J.K. Rowling's Harry Potter-themed releases. I mean, they do make our ordinary muggle lives a little more interesting. With The Cursed Child taking action in the bookstores, and the "Find Your Patronus" quiz on the Pottermore website, there's only one field they're missing: the movie theater. Which is where our wonderful, yet trouble-causing friend, Newt Scamander comes in. While he may just be an author in the Harry Potter world, he's about to be so much more in the new film Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them, in theaters November 18th (mark your calendars, Potterheads!)
As an avid Harry Potter lover, I am beyond ecstatic to see this movie. From the instant I saw they were making it a film to the release of the newest trailer, I've been there for it all. So, if you aren't as caught up with this fantastic, soon-to-be movie (see what I did there?), here are some things we know so far about Newt Scamander as an individual and what to expect in the movie Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them:
Newt Scamander:
1. He was expelled from Hogwarts for endangering students and staff with the possession of a beast. What kind of beast it was, we don't know. What we do know is that Albus Dumbledore, who at this time was a professor (he would become headmaster later on) argued against his expulsion.
2. The information we see in the physical book Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them is a collection of animals Scamander encountered while traveling all five continents. His publication is the 52nd edition of the book.
3. While this isn't stated, in the most recent trailer, we see a black and yellow scarf in Scamander's briefcase and that can only mean he was a Hufflepuff. Even if I'm a Ravenclaw according to Pottermore, I'm excited to see some main character Hufflepuff action here.
The Movie:
1. The movie starts with Scamander arriving in New York City in 1926 for the first time. He was a completely normal suitcase with him that has a very convenient "muggle worthy" setting.
2. With a suitcase full of magical creatures from all over the world, Scamander sneaks them through customs and all is well between the magical and non-magical world, for now.
3. The main problem of the movie occurs when a "no-maj", the American word for a muggle, finds an egg from the suitcase.
4. From this point on we can assume it goes down hill for Scamander and the MACUSA (Magical Congress of the United States of America) as they try to contain beasts from all around the world and ultimately stop the city from being destroyed by these magical creatures.
While there is still so much unanswered at the end of the most recent trailer, there was enough revealed to get people really excited for the movie release. For Potterheads worldwide, myself included, November 18th can not come fast enough. If you have any movie predictions or things you noticed in the trailer make sure to leave comments!
