After an exhausting week of no sleep and finals, every college student is looking forward to going home for the holidays. There are simplistic steps that we will always follow when we get back home. Honestly, anyone in his or her right mind would follow the steps outlined below.
The Crash
The second your head touches your pillow, you are out. The hibernation period can last a night, a day or even a week. My recommendation is to not awake the sleeping bear. You will get your head bitten off.
Seeing Friends
You are reunited with all of the friends you haven’t seen in months. There is a lot of hugging and happiness that is shared in those moments.
Decorating for the Holidays
You decorate the house or Christmas tree with friends and family. There is no discrimination because during the holidays friends are family and vice versa.
You shop for Christmas gifts until your bank account hates you. You are ruthless in your endeavors.
Watching Christmas Movies
The favorite pastime is watching the countless Christmas movies that exist. You may be watching Elf for the 900th time and can quote every word, but it still brings a smile to your face.
Family Time
You revel in all of the quality time you get to spend with your family. Trying to remember the names of all your relatives you haven’t seen in forever is your favorite game.
Evading all of the Questions
You absolutely hate the questions you receive from your relatives. You are sick of evading questions about your GPA, internships and relationships.
Eating Real Food
Food has never been so glorious to you. You are in heaven eating home cooked food (that is actually edible).
Opening Presents
When Christmas morning comes you get to open all of yours presents, and it’s wonderful! There's nothing more fun than tearing the wrapping paper from your present and watching people open what you bought for them.
The Countdown
The excitement about the upcoming year is starting to become too much to handle. Everyone is debating what their New Year’s resolution will be.
Partying with Friends and Family
You party with friends and family like it’s the last day of the year beause it is! You just enjoy the company you have around you and continually say that “this year will be the best ever!”
Kisses on New Years Eve
Whether it’s a random stranger, a friend or a significant other, everyone is a fan of the New Year’s Eve kiss. Ring in the New Year with a bang!
Morning After
The day after New Years Eve is always rough. The idea of leaving your bed is nonexistent, but you do it anyway because you have no choice.
The Last 24 Hours
Only 24 hours remain before going back to campus, and you are a mix of emotions. You do not want to leave good food and a comfy bed, but you also miss your friends and the freedom of college. So you just don’t know how you feel. You just feel like screaming and running away from decisions.
However you decide to celebrate your holidays, please enjoy them as much as possible. It can be a stressful time, but it's important to remember it's a time filled with love, too. I hope that everyone has a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!
