Winter On Campus

As told by Buddy the Elf.

Winter On Campus

Now that December is finally upon us and we've binge-watched all the best Christmas movies in the past 24 hours, we can finally focus on getting finals over with and going home to Christmas presents and feasts. But first, we must navigate through this oddly hellish time on campus to get to the good parts (the presents and the food). And what Christmas character do we relate to better than Buddy the Elf? None.

When the first snow of the season falls peacefully around you on campus.

Isn't campus beautiful this time of year? Don't let it fool you.

When that light snow morphed into #Snowpocalypse2k15.

How am I supposed to walk to class on ice and slush when I can barely walk to class when it's dry and sunny?

When your professor says his final isn't cumulative -- but it is.

How dare you, professor. You know I only studied the last three chapters we covered like two hours ago.

When you finally get home from class after a long day and have the first chance to eat.

Um, I just walked a mile to and from campus in freezing temperatures and memorized like 15 graphs in econ. Let me have this.

When you decide to check your grades since you have less than a month left of classes -- and realize you shouldn't have done that.

No, really. You should not have done that.

Your professor doesn't curve the final.

Enough said.

You remember all the presents you need to buy and realize you barely have enough for groceries.

"I'll save more money next year," you whisper to yourself as you gaze into your empty fridge.

Your parents ask you about how well their money is being spent at school.

This really means, "Are you still wasting my money with your undeclared major and two Cs?"

You have no clue what you're doing in college, but everyone else seems to know what they're doing so you just go with it.

No, but really, how'd you get an A on that exam?

You decide to take a nice, hot shower in the dorms.

Is there really such a thing?

You try to be confident about your finals, but they just got you like...

It'll be over soon. It'll be over soon. It'll be over soon.

But then you finally get to go home to your family and your gifts.

And can there be a better thing than snow you don't have to walk through, a warm house full of your family, and enough food to put you in a food coma for days? I think not.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
