Why I Write For Odyssey
Katherine Kozal

Have you ever had a moment where you realize that you found something that fits perfectly in your life?

For me, that something is writing for Odyssey.

I’m able to share my thoughts and ideas with my friends, family, and essentially the world, via different social media websites that all stem back to the Odyssey. I can publish an article on Odyssey, and share it on numerous sites where your followers and friends can view and read it.

Interaction with others on their articles is possible. I can read the opinions of others and comment on those. I can share the articles of others, to show that I agree with them. I have the option to respond to an article by writing my own piece on why I disagree with another writer’s opinion.

There are certainly hardships that come with being a writer, for me one is indecisiveness. The beauty of Odyssey, however, is the ability to start writing many different articles at once. I often think of one topic that I want to write about, and during the time that I’m writing that article, I think about another that I want to write about. My mind is focused on one topic and then I get inspiration to start a different one. I am able to write things simultaneously. I can go back to my articles multiple times during the week if I find a different way to express something, or a better way to convey a point. Being an introvert is easier with a platform like Odyssey where I can share my thoughts and ideas.

I can stop writing about a certain subject that I don’t feel confident in. I have done this countless times since I have started. Sometimes I go back and review my thoughts, and find a new way to present them, and begin the writing process again. Other times, I change my mind and decide to write about a whole new topic, leaving the first behind.

The weekly articles are not too daunting for even the busiest writers. Creators are given the freedom to express themselves however they choose, on whatever topic they choose. The possibilities are endless. The conversations that are sparked can be intellectual, or a more informal and fun topic, especially with listicles, which are, as you may have guessed, articles that are comprised of a list of basically anything. My favorite listicles are the ones that make me laugh, or are in celebration of the love of a certain tv show.

I have been writing for Odyssey for about six months now, and I just recently became the Editor-in-Chief of my school’s branch. It makes me so happy to see the writers at my school who are passionate about writing just like me. The opportunity to read and edit articles before they are published is just a small part of why I love writing for Odyssey. Creating articles each week about topics I care about not only reminds me to keep writing despite my busy schedule, but it also lets me have an online portfolio of pieces that I’ve written. Pieces that may spark a flame of thought for another writer, and start a chain of thoughts that started with me.

With Odyssey, the ideas never stop, and the creating is never done. Consider joining our team of Creators, because it will change the way you think, write, and who you aspire to be.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
