Why I'm A Christian...
What Culture

Just There are so many religions in the world: Hinduism, Catholicism, Judaism, et cetera. Then there's Christianity, which I'm sure almost everyone knows about seeing as it is the most "basic" in America. It's not hip like being agnostic or atheist, but I love my religion. I never really talk about my religion, but I feel that since Christina Grimmie was killed because of her faith, it's time for Christians everywhere to stand up and be themselves.

Being a Christian is totally not pop-punk, and for everyone who knows me I'm all about being "pop-punk" because hey, I'm rad, but I really don't care because I've been a Christian my whole life. I may not be the "best" Christian because I don't read the Bible everyday, go to church every Sunday, preach it to everyone I encounter, accept the fact that not everyone will be Christians.

I believe in gay marriage, I heavily support the LGBTQ+ community, I smoke cigarettes, and do many un-Christian things, but that does't change the fact that I love God. I'm a Christian for many other reasons besides just going to Heaven when I pass away.

But, I'm not like:

God has been there for me when nobody else has, and that means a lot to me. He's there when I have nobody to talk to, He's there when I have no friends, He's there when I'm dealing with troubling things going on in my life. He was there for me through my parents' divorce, being put in foster care, my best friend passing away, my dad abandoning me and many, many other things.

Everyone makes mistakes in their lives, and I believe that everyone deserves forgiveness and a second chance, which is also what God believes. I am a Christian because I know that I am a sinner who needs forgiveness, whether it be from God Himself or other people.

Those are a couple of reasons why I believe in God and am a Christian, but words cannot express how I feel in my heart about a man who died on the cross for people he hadn't even met. One thing people always say is, "It was so long ago, how do you know it's not just a bedtime story?" Well, that's the thing, I don't know 100% for sure. Nobody does. That's why it's called faith. Believing in something whether or not you know that it is scientifically true.

My favorite Bible verse is Psalm 23 (KJV):

1 The LORD is my shepherd; I shall not want.

2 He maketh me to lie down in green pastures: he leadeth me beside the still waters.

3 He restoreth my soul: he leadeth me in the paths of righteousness for his name's sake.

4 Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou art with me; thy rod and thy staff they comfort me.

5 Thou preparest a table before me in the presence of mine enemies: thou anointest my head with oil; my cup runneth over.

6 Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life: and I will dwell in the house of the Lord for ever.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
