Why You're Never Too Old For A Birthday Party

Birthday parties never go out of style.

Recently, I heard something that made the child in me want to cry: now that I have turned 20 years old, apparently I am "too old" to have a birthday party. Personally, I don't think that you can be too old for anything, especially not birthday parties. Plus, if you live to be in your nineties or above, you deserve a medal. So, instead of taking this comment to heart, I have decided that birthday parties are not to be grown out of, but simply altered to fit your age as you celebrate life with each coming year. Besides, who doesn't love an excuse to eat cake?

1. No Rules, No Problems

As you reach adulthood, it may be full of triumphs and struggles, and you may ask yourself "What am I doing?" multiple times a day. But, adulthood does have its perks. Throwing a birthday party means that you can do whatever your heart desires for an entire day. If you want to cram ten people into a bed meant for two and spend the day eating donuts and watching Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants on a loop, go ahead! No shame whatsoever. This is your day.

2. A Cheapskate's Dream

There is a common misconception floating around that birthday parties are too expensive. People think that it's better to only celebrate the big, important years and just let the awkward in- between years slide by. But, I think that surviving another year full of stress and hard work should deserve some recognition. Birthday parties do not have to be expensive. You don't need to splurge and buy the coolest blow up palm tree and provide all the food and drinks. Have your friends and family skip presents and bring something to the party that everyone can enjoy. Spending time with the people you love does not cost a cent.

3. Work Hard, Play Harder

A birthday party is not a just a celebration of age. It is also the perfect opportunity to take the day off from work and get a much deserved break. Give yourself a stress free cheat day and invite friends over to do the same. I promise you won't regret it.

4. Theme Scheme

Great birthday parties are not complete without a theme. Now is your chance to dress up as Captain America, no judgement. It's like Halloween all over again, except this time you can try out whatever crazy dessert from Pinterest you've been wanting to try (and in my case, completely fail). Again, themes do not have to be expensive. DIY decorations are fun to make, and if your desserts are a success, you will be a birthday party legendary.

5. Love Yourself Like You Love Your Pets

Believe it or not, there are people who throw their pets a birthday party. I usually just give my cat some catnip and he's happy as can be, but I respect those who choose to spoil their pets. If someone's dog is not too old to have a birthday party, you will never be too old for a birthday party.

Moral of the story, the answer to "Should I do something special for my birthday this year?" is always a yes.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Challah vs. Easter Bread: A Delicious Dilemma

Is there really such a difference in Challah bread or Easter Bread?

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
