So in my overall dating experience, I have never been able to say that I have been actual ~BEST~ friends with a significant other until my current relationship. Honestly, I cannot imagine a better way to be with someone. Me and my husband have even had people comment on how fun we seem to be and how awesome it is that we seem like we are best friends in front of everyone. My husband is literally the most amazing person I have ever met, and I am blessed to call him not only my significant other but also my best friend. So here are a few reasons why I think this is the best type of relationship to be in...
1.You will probably want to watch the same TV shows.
In this age of Netflix binging, I feel we all need someone who will be willing to watch seasons upon seasons of TV shows with us girls, preferably while drinking a fancy box of wine or something of that sort ;p.
2. There will be more than enough laughs.
I cannot count the number of times where either inside jokes or just jokes, in general, have sent either me or my husband into uncontrollable laughing fits. When your significant other is also your best friend, you will likely have the same sense of humor, so basically any and every situation has the potential to end up as a good laugh between the two of you.
3. You can read each other’s body language.
When someone is close enough to be your best friend, they are also close enough to read your body language. So when you want to go home or are not just feeling the social situation, your partner will most likely be able to tell. There’s no reason to act like you are having a good time or enjoying yourself when you aren’t, so having a best friend around is probably the best asset for a situation like that.
4. Communication is key.
As with all relationships, communication is SUPER important. But when your significant other is your best friend, communication can be so much easier than with someone who is still trying to figure you out. It is always so much easier to open up to someone who is willing to know, understand, and relate to you on every level.
5. Lastly, you get to spend every night (and morning) hanging out with your best friend.
It is like a never ending sleepover! I know that this might sound kind of dorky and cliché, but it is completely true. To be sure I even asked my husband (who is busy playing video games) what he thought was the best part of being best friends, and he said the exact same thing. Spending time with your best friend is just the biggest joy of life.
Overall, my husband being my best friend is the best thing that could ever happen to me. We have so much fun – even if we aren’t leaving the couch – and there are always plenty of laughs to be had. I know that I have read some articles saying that your significant other shouldn’t be your best friend, but honestly, I could never imagine it any other way.
