Every single argument with my sister was followed by my mom saying “I know you can’t see it now, but you are going to be best friends when you girls get older,” and every time I blew it off with disagreement. Well I was wrong. As much as we argue and bicker, and no matter how much you annoy me, you will always be my best friend.
Sisters have a tendency to take your clothes without asking, use all your stuff, and ask you for rides everywhere, but more importantly, your sister will keep your secrets (especially from your parents) and is always there to make you laugh or smile when you’re down.
Even though you drive me crazy half the time, I consider myself lucky to have a sister. Some people don't know what it’s like to have siblings and I am so grateful to have siblings that I’m close to.
Watching you as you grow up has also made our relationship stronger. Most times when an older sibling leaves for college, their relationship is altered or they become more distant, however not with us. Our bond became 10 times stronger as I left for college. It's almost as if you matured even more while I was at school. No matter how much I miss you while I’m away, I will definitely not miss people asking if you’re the older sibling (when you are actually four years younger).
I always appreciate when you come to me for advice. I feel lucky to have a younger sister that trusts me enough to ask my opinion and what I think (even though sometimes you just do what you want anyway). I don’t know where I would be if I didn’t have my little sister by my side. I know that I’ll always be able to count on you for anything.
I handle things that come my way differently than others because I know my little sister is watching and I hope to set a good example for you. I hope you see the effort I put in to make sure you make good choices. I may act like more of your mom sometimes than a sister, but I do it because I want the best for my little sis. I want you to not have to make the same mistakes I did growing up.
You may get annoyed at me sometimes or I may yell at you, but no matter what we make up within five minutes. That’s the beauty of a best friend that is stuck with you! The fights are short and nine times out of 10 are always about something pointless.
Wherever we go in our lives as the years go on, I know that our relationship will only get stronger. I know our future holds so much for us and I can’t wait to share it with you!
