Why Your College Friends Are Your Best Friends

One of the first worries that most people have before they start college is if they will be able to make friends. A majority of people have been around the same people from the time they were born to the time they graduated high school. When college rolls around everyone has to start over to gain friendships like they have back home. In some cases, your college friends can become your best friends.

1. You can have sleep overs whenever you want

No more parents telling you what time to go to bed or what to eat or when you can have your friends home for a sleep over. Staying up until the crack of dawn talking and laughing about anything with your friends is one of the best ways to spend a Friday night.

2. They are a short walk away

One of the best experiences you get from college is the chance to live in a dorm with people your same age. This being said, some of your best friends can start by interacting with the people on your floor. College friends are easier to hang out with because more often than not, you are able to walk down the hall to see them.

3. They are all going through the same things you are

There are many 'firsts' that come with college. It is comforting to have others there with you who are experiencing the same adjustment. You are able to talk with them about the new experiences that you are going through and they will be able to understand where you are coming from and offer advice.

4. You can mooch off their meal plan

When you end up spending too much of you meal plan on Starbucks and are practically begging people for food by the end of the semester, your friends (that are not caffeine addicts) are there to save you from hunger.

5. They do not judge you when you order pizza at two in the morning

In fact, they will most likely be the ones who either prompted you to order or they will steal a slice when it arrives.

6. They will make sure you stay awake to finish the paper that you procrastinated until the last day

Your college friends understand the importance of getting that paper done in time and will do everything in their power to keep you awake and focused on your goal.

7. They help you become a better version of yourself

They point out your flaws and show you ways to improve in your schoolwork and your personal life with the intention of making you a better you.

8. They love you for who you are

Although they have not known you for very long, you feel like you can tell them anything and they will love you for you. It is easy to see that the people you meet in college will become your lifelong friends.

Taylor Swift in orange dress playing a moss-covered piano on stage with bright lights.

A three-and-a-half-hour runtime. Nine Eras. Eleven outfit changes. Three surprise songs. Zero breaks. One unforgettable evening. In the past century, no other performer has put on an electric performance quite like Taylor Swift, surpassing her fans ‘wildest dreams’. It is the reason supporters keep coming back to her shows each year. Days later, I’m still in awe of the spectacle ‘Miss Americana’ puts on every few days in a new city. And, like one of Taylor’s exes, has me smiling as I reminisce about the memories of the night we spent together.

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

Finals week is upon us. It is a magical time of year during which college students everywhere flock to the library in attempt to learn a semester's worth of knowledge in only a week. For some students, it's their first time in the library all semester, maybe ever. Others have slaved away many nights under the fluorescent lights, and are slightly annoyed to find their study space being invaded by amateurs. While these newbies wander aimlessly around the first floor, hopelessly trying to find a table, the OGs of the library are already on the third floor long tables deep into their studies. Here is a few signs that you may live in the library, whether you'd like to admit it or not.
