Why You Should Try Going Makeup-Free

As temperatures rise in the summer, the amount of coverage on our bodies seems to decrease. The shorter shorts are broken out, along with crop tops and various swimwear. If we're covering less on our bodies, why not cover less on our faces?

On that note, here are some of the best benefits of trying out a makeup-free summer:

1. It will free up your morning

Waking up in the morning is already hard enough. Waking up even earlier to meticulously dot concealer under your puffy eyes starts to become a chore. Unless you're one of those self-empowered people who actually enjoys this daily morning ritual, you can't deny it'd be nice to hit the snooze 2-3 (or 10) more times. Plus, even if you do wake up at the same time, you'll have more time in the A.M. to accomplish things. You can read that extra chapter in your book, go for a quick 20-minute run, or even just spend more time making yourself a bomb breakfast!

2. Increased spontaneity

Everyone knows that in the summer, you could be driving with your squad when all of a sudden they all start talking about going into the city. You naturally worry about what you will look like while you head downtown, inevitably taking pictures by the waterfront. If you choose not to wear makeup, it doesn't matter if your eyeliner is still on point—it was never there to begin with! You can go anywhere and do anything at the snap of your fingers. You won't have to worry about scuttling into a public restroom to fix your eyeshadow or contouring job.

3. No more racoon eyes!

If you don't wear makeup, you can say goodbye to the never-ending dilemma that is wearing waterproof mascara! Without worrying about black clumps dribbling down your cheeks, you can basically be a full-time mermaid. Who doesn't want that?

4. Treat yo' self

Going makeup-free is not only good for your wallet, but it is also better for your pores to be free and unclogged. That extra vitamin D from the sun isn't hurting anyone either (as long as you still wear sunscreen). After going makeup-free for just a week, I noticed a considerable difference in my skin. It was clear, even, and smoother than ever before. Treat your body like the goddess you are, and let it breathe.

5. For Self Confidence

There's no doubt that not wearing any makeup is intimidating at first. You feel naked and scared that people will criticize your newly unadulterated look. However, once you get past this initial feeling of discomfort, you will embrace the freeing experience of being makeup free. You will quite literally feel beautiful in your own skin. There is nothing better than knowing that you are rocking what you've got because that's how you should always feel.

However, I must add that although these are all solid reasons to try a makeup free summer, there are also many reasons why you should wear makeup. If makeup makes you feel happy and confident, then go for it. You should express the skin you feel best in. You'll be flawless either way.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
