Summer while you are in college is a lot different than a typical summer in high school. College summers consist of summer classes, internships or working a typical nine to five job. Although for some, summer is a relaxing time to waste away days drinking and hanging out with friends, for many it's not. That's why, no matter what your bank account is looking like, you deserve to take a trip and enjoy summer somewhere other than where you live. Taking trips allows you to forget about the stress daily life brings and gives you a chance to escape the daily routine you’ve endured all summer. I’m not saying you have to book a trip to California and spend hundreds of dollars, but hopping in the car and spending a weekend at the lake or in the mountains hiking can give you a mental release that is much needed.
Summer’s after college are not the type of summer’s students are used to, so enjoy summer while you can. One day, summer days will be filled with work and a lot less play, so while you have some time to enjoy the beautiful country we live in, do it. With that being said, enjoy all of the other seasons too. Spring, fall, and winter all have something to contribute to positive feelings. In the spring, the weather is typically beautiful with a perfect combination of temperature and wind. In the fall, you see the leaves start to change colors and football is on all of the time. In winter, you cherish the warmth of your fireplace and holiday music lifts your spirit during the holiday season. Summer is a unique season since the weather is typically hot (in the Midwest at least), so you know what type of day each day is going to be. But being able to cherish the other seasons is important as well.
Back on the summer discussion, working and taking summer classes are essential for some, but giving yourself a rest period is just as important. Being able to reflect on how hard you’ve worked all summer will give you a sense of accomplishment and the ability to cherish the time we have off. Summertime is a time to gather with friends and celebrate making it another school year, and going on a trip with friends is the best way to do that. Whether it be the sunny beaches of California or Florida or the mountains of Colorado or Tennessee, find a place to take a new adventure where you can escape the daily grind of work and school, and focus on how beautiful the landscape of our country is.
