Road Trips help expand your horizons; they also allow you to see new horizons. Summer is the time of the year for traveling and exploring. The roads are no longer piled up with snow and your time is no longer consumed with studying. Sometimes the best education you will get is through your experiences so take a couple days off of work and go explore the world around you!
If you need more persuasion, here are six reasons why you should go take a road trip this summer.
1. Road Trips are one of the cheapest way to travel.
Plane tickets to your favorite location can be very pricey so road trips allow you to vacation without breaking your bank to get there. Plus, you won’t have to pay for a ridiculously expensive car rental or get an Uber every time you wanted to go explore. The benefit of having your own car when you go on a vacation means more freedom to do what you want and keep your money in your pocket.
2. There is nothing like a 12-hour car ride to bond with your friends.
Another great part of road trips is spending time, lots of time, with the friends you’re traveling with. You can play classic road trip games, like "20 questions" or "I Spy" to pass the time. You don’t have to worry about who sits with whom, or who gets the awkward seat with random strangers like you would on a plane. Everyone in the car gets to bond together and be a part of all the memories that are being made.
3. You can pack as much as you'd like.
Packing for a location that you’ve never been to is difficult, especially when it comes to depending on your Weather Application to tell you honestly what the 7-day forecast will really be like. Majority of the time you over pack just in case that vibrant, sunny 90 degree day turns into a muggy 70 degree day. When you’re planning to fly you have to shed off those extra pounds on your suitcase so you don’t get charged an extra fee for having a suitcase that is too heavy, and that also means having to leave behind some important pieces of your wardrobe that you could possibly use on your vacation. However, when you’re taking your own car you don’t have to worry about how much your suitcase weighs and can make sure you have an appropriate outfit for whatever weather joins your vacation.
4. You can see more of the world in person.
When you fly you get a bird’s eye view of everything; Mountain ranges become little points on land, and the Great Lakes turn into little ponds. Flying doesn’t give perspective like driving along the coast of a huge body of water, or swerving along the roads through mountain ranges does. There is truly something amazing about driving through the country that makes you in awe about the fact that a few states over could have a totally different environment than where you live. In a car the world transforms to truly how grand it really is.
5. You can spontaneously take a road trip.
Road trips don’t have to be the most planned out vacation. Sometimes if you have some time off you can just jump in the car and take to the road. You don’t have to worry about leaving at a certain time or even day. You aren’t conflicted to get to the airport three hours early to go through security or worry about your plane being delayed. Road trips allow you to be in complete control of where you go and when you go.
6. Road trips don't have to be far.
Road trips don’t necessarily mean you have to even leave your state. Sometimes seeing what is in your backyard is just as interesting as seeing the other side of the country. Maybe there is a city you’ve never visited before that’s across your state, or a famous landmark you have yet to see. You’d be amazed at what you’ve never seen and is only a couple hours away from where you live.
This summer take a road trip to somewhere with your friends, go explore places you’ve never seen, and make memories. You’ll never know what the world has to offer unless you go see it for yourself.
