This summer, I decided that I wanted to take some classes. I realized that I would be pretty busy this summer, but I know that my work ethic is good. Online classes seemed like the best option for me at the time because I wasn't able to stay at my university over the summer. So, here I am with one week down and five more to go with my first class of the semester.
I think that taking summer classes is putting you at an advantage. Your brain is being challenged in ways that others aren't over the summer. You are analyzing articles, plugging in equations, or even writing some research papers. These all require some thought processes, which is what our brains should be doing anyway.
Of course, some of the online classes you will take will have some busy work. However, online classes over the summer allow you to make your own schedule. Since I am working full time right now, I barely have enough time to read an entire book after work. However, I am making time each night to read so many pages and waking up earlier the next day to get it done.
Luckily, summer classes tend to give you all the deadlines at the beginning of the course. This was great for me because it allowed me to put it all on my calendar. Being organized is especially important when it comes to summer classes. It's so easy to forget about an assignment, so I recommend setting a reminder on your phone.
Personally, I am taking these classes because I want to finish my GEs. This will pull a little weight off my shoulders the next couple of semesters and allow me to focus on my major and minor classes. I'm also taking all of these classes because I want to learn more this summer.
Learning is one of my favorite things to do, and I'm fortunate enough to go to a school that cares so much about it. For these kinds of classes, I can do them outside in the nice weather after a long day of work, or I can read a book in the comfort of my own bed.
There are definitely some classes that are better taken in person than online, but sometimes you have to do what is best for your situation. I hope after this summer, I will have gained a new perspective on things taught in each of these classes. Here's to hoping!
