Why You Should Take Chances

It's time to let go of your fears for good.

Why You Should Take Chances
we heart it

Everyone has their different opinions and views on life. My opinion is very strong, and I just can’t help but express how I believe life is supposed to be spent.

“Carpe Diem.” It means seize the day, mostly known from the famous movie “Dead Poets Society,” in which Robin Williams tells his class this. I cannot express the meaning the phrase has to me; seize the day for yourself. Every minute, from when you wake up until you go to bed, is a memory being made and a chance that you are meant to take. I don’t want to waste my days complaining, not experiencing life to the extent that I can. If you aren’t happy, don’t like the way things are going, or have someone toxic in your life, change it. Do something. This is your life, and when you are old, wrinkly, and looking back on all those years, you are going to want to smile and say you regret nothing. Take road trips, go to concerts, festivals, camping, hiking; experience life while you can.

Life is beautiful, crazy, and weird. Spend it fully enjoying your life. You never know what will happen if you just don't hold yourself back for once; your life could be changed in such a better way. Fear is what holds us back from experiencing some of the best times of our lives. It's time to let go of that fear and take charge of your own life for once. Forget everything you ever thought bad, think of the good that can happen. The endless possibilities that can make you extremely happy are infinite. You should always push yourself to be the best person you can be. The best version of yourself may be the one who took the chance to change everything and gain independence. You should never give up on someone or something because you are scared; life is more than worrying.

It can all be gone in the blink of an eye; the scariest thing to me about that is this: have I really lived? Can you say you’ve been truly, insanely happy? If you haven’t, then start now. Don’t be scared to take chances, because without taking chances, life would be pretty boring. You never know if that one chance you take will change your life.

A wise man once said “YOLO.” Now, I know this is dumb, but think about it; you only live once. There are no second chances in life, you either do it or you don’t. Personally, choosing to not do something because you are scared of the consequences is when you are holding yourself back from living. Live for the moment, don’t worry about tomorrow. So cliche, I know, but I promise it will make all the difference in a long run. Live your life.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

Why I Chose a Small School Over a Big University.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
