Recently I went through a slight rough patch in my career of life. A lot of people deal with rough patches by doing drugs, drinking, lashing out at people, but I am not that type of person in any way.
When I went through a slight slump I found myself writing. So much more than I had ever before. It brought me tranquility to sit down and write down my thoughts. It put my train back on its tracks and made my thoughts more simplistic.
I had never shared my writing. Mainly because I had no reason too. There came a point where one of my friends asked to see what I was writing. I was very skeptical because I had never shared it before. I decided to let him ponder it and he enjoyed reading it.
I had never written for anyone and always enjoyed writing just for myself. I wanted my writing to be expressed even more, though. I wanted some way to challenge my brain cells.
So one day I decided that I was going to start a simple blog. One that was for me but if others waddled across it then it would be no big deal. One where my writing would be revised by me and would put a smile on my face when I saw that I had created something that was bigger than just some words in a moleskin notebook.
I sat in my favorite coffee shop for about four hours one day and figured out what type of writing style I wanted to have, what website I would use, the different content I would have besides writing, and soon enough I found my rough patch starting to patch itself up.
Whenever I would feel slightly down in the dumps I would throw myself into my work that had no deadlines, no one to look over my shoulder making sure I was doing it, and no responsibilities. It was a blog that was purely for me and only me.
I got a lot of positive feedback when people did read articles or watch one of my videos and I saw at one point it actually helped another person. A few weeks after I had started my blog one of my friends texted me telling me how I inspired her to start a blog because she was going through a slump in her life as well.
This is why I am challenging you to start your own blog. The millennials are known for being able to use technology to its highest of purposes. We should take advantage of our skills and have a space on the internet where you have no responsibilities.
You are free to share what you want and whenever you want to share it. Whenever I have something that it a bump in the road of my life, instead of sub-tweeting people or posting an Instagram picture with a sappy caption, I just write and place the emotions in-between the line for only some to find.
If you start a blog today I can promise you that it will challenge you to do greater things, make your mind wander into areas you have never seen, and put a smile on your face when you realize that you have made something that was just done by you.
