Why Taking 8 A.M. Classes Is The Worst Thing Ever

Seriously, don't do it.

Why Taking 8 A.M. Classes Is The Worst Thing Ever

I have friends who are early birds: the ones who wake up early for classes. I also have friends who are night owls: people who schedule their classes by the moon. It is completely up to you to determine which one you are.

So, this brings me to an interesting debate. Research suggests students do better if they wake up early for classes. "You have energy. Your days last longer. It isn't as bad as you think. You'll feel focused." I'm on the other side of the spectrum. I'm clearly against waking up early for that 8 a.m. regardless. If you want to see me voice my frustrations about taking 8 a.m. classes, you're in the right place. If you want to take an 8 a.m. see you later. Here are my top five reasons why you should not take an 8 a.m. class in your college career, in no particular order, of course.

1. You will be your roommate's alarm if you take a class at 8 a.m.

I hate it when I am forced to wake up, especially while I'm sleeping. The sound of the slamming of my dorm door. The knocking down of random items in the room.Seriously? You had the audacity to do this? I am your roommate andI shall be respected... "No roommate, you won't be, because of my 8 a.m."

2. Early mornings and boring professors don't mix.

There is no other way to put you to rest than when you hear the professor's monotone voice in your Shakespeare or molecular biology class.

"On page seven..." Wake up! Oh yeah, you can't. You're too busy swallowing your drool.

3. During winter, it's freezing.

The weather doesn't seem so bad when you're still in your door room. Maybe you think your 8 a.m. is doable if you get yourself a large, hot black coffee and everything will be good...but then the snap slaps you in your beautiful face. " Oh my! Ain't nobody got time to get up and walk in this negative-degree weather."

4. Oversleeping.

How many times have you heard: "I overslept my alarm. I'd rather stay in bed. I'll take the day off." Preach. Trust me. We all have lives. Work. Kids. Clubs. Sports. Greek life. Studying. I'm all for it, though. You can be productive without that 8 a.m. Just have to make sure you're able to survive your schedule. Hey, at least, you're not in high school anymore?

5. Did I mention being hungover?

You just don't want to be up early. You're enjoying your college experience. It's okay not to regret being drunk on a Tuesday and hooking up with that girl or guy before spring break. Yes, the turn up is real. Just ask my man SpongeBob! He knows.

You want to join the dark side and sleep in and not be bothered. I definitely get it. Hopefully, you're not too exhausted reading this. Just know it's not too late to make up your mind about taking 8 a.m. classes in college.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
