6 Reasons Why You Should Not Go Greek

Greek life could be the best (or worst) decision you've ever made.

Every sorority girl knows that with the fall semester just around the corner everyone's chapter is focused on one thing: recruitment. In the fall there will be thousands of new college students leaving their parents, friends and hometowns to begin a life off on their own; that also means there are thousands of potential new members too. Greek life is definitely not for everyone though and you can never be prepared for the life change it brings.

1. You will never escape having family close by.

Once you join a sorority and are initiated, you will have at least 100 new sisters. No matter where you go or which fraternity's house you are at, someone from your sorority will be there.

2. You have too many people to look up to.

My chapter has a bomb president. She's in her second term as president, is in the last stretch of nursing school and to top it all off she just got engaged. (Can you say goals?) She has no easy job dealing with the drama of 100 plus girls, and yet she makes it look effortless. She, along with the rest of our Executive Board, make our chapter the great thing that it is today.

3. You will have a limitless amount of clothes (and laundry).

From the first day that Big Little week starts your wardrobe will expand. First it's T-shirts, then it's letter shirts and then before you know it you're drowning in a sea of sorority laundry. You might like it though, because if you're like me, then you have enough shirts to last a couple weeks without doing laundry.

4. You will always be eating.

The first thing that I did after running home was go eat at the celebration. Food is everything in a sorority. Going to hang out with your friends? You're probably going to eat. Going to study? There's going to be food there, too.

5. You can never go anywhere without seeing someone you know.

No matter what class you're in, which building you're walking to or if you're just standing in the Starbucks line, you will see someone you know. Odds are they might even have on the same fraternity shirt you have on too.

6. Your phone will never be charged.

With all the new friends and followers you'll get, your phone will never stop blowing up. Whether it's a GroupMe notification for a fraternity chat or a Facebook post on your chapter wall, chances are high that your phone will be buzzing non-stop. Investing in a portable charger does wonders.

So as you consider if Greek life is for you, remember all of the ways your life will change. For me, these changes have opened up to a whole new world. After all, isn't that the point of college: to experience a whole new world!

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Whether you met your new love interest online, through mutual friends, or another way entirely, you'll definitely want to know what you're getting into. I mean, really, what's the point in entering a relationship with someone if you don't know whether or not you're compatible on a very basic level?

Consider these 21 questions to ask in the talking stage when getting to know that new guy or girl you just started talking to:

Challah vs. Easter Bread: A Delicious Dilemma

Is there really such a difference in Challah bread or Easter Bread?

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
