I've been here at Liberty for almost seven full weeks now (wow, that's insane), and I am finally getting into a routine of studying. Ya know, prioritizing, or the "books over boys mentality" according to my roommate. True, my life is no where near perfect and it NEVER will be, but that's not my goal.
My goal is to give up.
Yeah, you heard me. I want to give up. Isn't that what we're called to do? Let me explain.
Before the creation of the earth, God knew exactly what every single day, minute, and second would hold, so why on earth would I spend even a second worrying about anything that is of this world? It's just not worth it. The things of this earth will pass away, but one day Christ will return and everything on earth will fade into a new creation...
So why do we think that our earthly problems deserve so much attention?
We. Are. Sinful. It's in our blood, in our DNA, and it's a part of our nature. We think we have this entitlement to worry about the problems that we face on a day-to-day basis, when in reality, none of them compare to the weight that Jesus felt on the cross. His death held the weight of the entire world's sin, so the next time you start to worry over that exam that you got a bad grade on, or that paper that you have to write, just remember that your problems are no match for your God.
He calls us to actually give up, to give ourselves to Him and for His purposes. We give up our earthly desires and passions, and instead give ourselves up for His desires and passions. We literally "give up."
The relief felt from doing this is indescribable and my life has a new passion and new song for Christ's work and not my own. How is God speaking to you? What is He telling you to "give up?"
