I'll be honest, I signed up for recruitment because everyone in my hall was doing it. I figured that it'd be a great way to meet new people and that it might even be fun! So, off I went to visit five different houses. Going Greek has been one of the best experiences that I've had during my time at Witt. I made friends who I never would have had the chance to meet without going Greek. I joined something bigger than myself and grew as a person. It hasn't always been easy, but it's been worth it.
Why should you go Greek?
Go Greek to be inspired. When I first joined, I wanted to be just like the seniors who had it all. They were brilliant, friendly, had their lives together, and still knew how to have a good time. Now, as one of the seniors, I've watched the girls underneath me blossom and develop into strong, independent, caring women who I am proud to call my sisters. They push me to be the best version of myself and to act with compassion.
Go Greek to be challenged. My sisters push me to the brink sometimes. They drive me nuts every once in a while, but what organization doesn't make you crazy sometimes? I'm grateful for the challenges because they make me question my decisions and opinions in the best way possible.
Go Greek to get involved. If you have the ability and the desire, take the opportunity to join an organization that supports a philanthropic cause, promotes academics, and encourages life-long friendships. Learn your sorority's history and shape its legacy.
Go Greek to find your support system. If there is an event on campus and a sister is involved, you'd better believe that her sisters will be there. When my uncle and cousin passed away, my sisters surrounded me with love and support. When I lost myself, my sisters were there to help me find who I was again.
Go Greek to join a family. Witt is my home, but my sorority is my home within my home. They are the people who I feel comfortable being myself around. They embrace my stress and my mess. They put up with my quirky habits and I know that they support me no matter what I do.
Go Greek to become a leader. I've held three different positions in my sorority and each has helped me develop as an individual. I am confident in my skills and abilities. I've learned that a leader isn't necessarily the loudest in the room--she is someone who listens to those around her and who does what is best for the group. She is passionate and values others' opinions. She can create the change that she wants to see.
Go Greek to discover who you are. I am a positive, dedicated, hard-working Greek woman who is proud of her sorority and her Panhellenic family. I am not afraid to speak up for those who are not being heard. I am enthusiastic, supportive, and encouraging. I am Greek.
Go Greek to create your own legacy. Ultimately, you take away what you put into it. You can leave your mark on the people with whom you surround yourself.
I'm nearing the end of my four years here and I'm finally starting to realize that everything in life is fleeting. Soon, I'll just be a composite on the wall and that's alright. The memories that I've made and the friendships that I've formed are more than enough. Looking back, I'm so glad that I went with the flow for once and signed up for recruitment.
I'm a better, stronger, happier version of myself today because of it.
I love my sorority and I'm proud to be Greek.
