Disney has produced movie magic since the release of its first fully animated feature film "Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs" in 1937. Growing up, at every sleepover and birthday party, girls- myself included- would dress up as their favorite Princess and go into their fairytale world. Disney is one of the top grossing companies in the world with its theme parks, multiple franchises and tons of award winning movies. One of Disney's newer animated films, titled "Wreck-It Ralph", was not one to stir up much buzz. As a very active Disney lover, I feel that it is my duty to make this fantastic movie better known to the public.
1. The Moral
This movie has an excellent moral that all ages can relate to. The entire theme revolves around self-acceptance. People will always judge you based on any and all preconceived notions they may have, but life is not about changing people's minds about you, it is about learning to love yourself regardless of what other people may say.
2. The Humor
What would a Disney movie be without humor? Throughout the entire film, there was little bits humor thrown in to make a harsh scene lighthearted. A lot of these moments were made into "meme" moments such as:
In one of the game worlds, Sugar Rush, there were multiple candy references to refer to different characters and locations within this world.
3. Ralph's Character Development
Ralph, or Wreck-It Ralph, is the main character in this movie, and he starts out by hating himself and even the game he is programmed into. His story begins with him saying how he just dreams of being appreciated and being allowed to have cake with his fellow game mates. Ralph is very resentful of them and leaves to prove that he can be a "good guy" and not just the "bad guy" that he is programmed to be. Although Ralph is one sweetheart of a character, he does hold a grudge and is very prideful, which are not admirable traits to have. As he continues his journey of self-discovery and meets some new friends, he eventually lets go of his resentment and self-loathing and learns to accept himself and just be happy. Ralph begins to make the most of the life he was given and becomes much more satisfied because of it.
4. Vanellope von Schweetz
In every movie, there is a character that is introduced for the sole purpose of comedic relief, and Vanellope is that character. Vanellope is introduced in the land of Sugar Rush and is referred to as a "glitch" by her fellow racers because she glitches. The king of the land will not allow her to race and become a part of the game in fear that the gamers will notice the fault and shut the game down, subjecting all of the Suger Rush characters to death. Pretty harsh right? Vanellope is introduced when Ralph drops in by accident, and he vouched to help Vanellope enter the race and win so that she can become a part of the game. The two go on many adventures together, and while helping Vanellope, Ralph, in turn, helps himself to find happiness. This little character is a little ball of adorableness and humor that you cannot help but fall in love.
(I mean look at this spunky little kid, she has pieces of candy in her hair! Can she be any cuter?)
5. Sergeant Calhoun
This woman is my favorite character in the entire movie. She is the main character in a military style game called Hero's Duty. Her character is programmed with the most tragic backstory ever. She meets a fellow recruit and falls in love. On her wedding day, she does not do a perimeter check and the monster bugs, the antagonists in her game, break into the marriage hall and eat her fiancee. She is a kickass badass with the best one-liners.
6. The Freaking Ending
This movie is the perfect mix of carefree fun and well placed real life morals. From spunky little kids to badass military sergeants, this film has something for everyone. More people need to watch this movie and realize the greatness that is "Wreck-It Ralph."
