Everyone has his or her favorite season of the year. For most of the people that I talk to, it is either summer or fall; but for me it is winter. Many do not like winter for two reasons: the school year is during winter and they don't enjoy being cold. I’m writing about some of the reasons why winter is my favorite season.
The holidays.
That should be an obvious one. I love Thanksgiving and Christmas. Not only Christmas day, but the entire Christmas season. I love listening to Christmas music and watching Christmas movies. Every year since I was born, my family goes together and picks out a real Christmas tree that we then take home, put up and decorate together. It is one of my favorite parts of the Christmas season. Every year for Christmas, my brother, sister and I receive an ornament and a nutcracker from our parents. Both are always related to what we were into that year or what we loved most at the time. For example, in the eighth grade, I read "Gone With the Wind" by Margret Mitchell and for Christmas that year I received a Scarlett O’Hara ornament. Each of these memories and traditions is very important to me, and I love seeing what my brother and sister get each year as well. The holiday season is one of the many reasons to love winter.
The weather.
I live for cold. I love feeling cold, I love seeing my breath in the air when I go outside in the morning and it is only 30 degrees outside. It is a great feeling. I also love the winter rains we get that (hopefully) will turn into snow once February rolls around. In Georgia, snow is about as good as it gets. I have not met many people who love being cold as much as I do. I am biased towards the cold. I have been diagnosed with migraines since a very young age, and one of the reasons I get them is by getting over heated. So you can imagine, Georgia summers are not fun for me. I would always much rather be too cold than too hot. You can always add more layers, but you can only take so many off.
The activities.
When it’s winter, there are many fun vacations you can take. You cannot go skiing in the summer. My favorite vacations are those in the mountains. In the winter, going to the mountains where it is super snowy (i.e. Breckenridge, Colorado) and getting to do activities like sled, ski, outdoor ice skate, etc. are the best. I love just walking around outside in the snow/cold. I personally think that everything looks more beautiful with snow on it. Playing in the snow is always a plus, and it is the perfect excuse to have as many hot drinks as you can imagine.
Though school is in session, there are no beach trips and it is cold, I still love the winter season most of all. I would always prefer to be cold over hot, the hope of snow is very exciting, the winter activities are more fun and the holidays are only a few of the reasons why I love winter so much. The color changing leaves in the fall are absolutely stunning, but (specifically in Georgia) it is still so warm in the fall, that I cannot enjoy it the way I wish I could. Summer beach trips are fun and relaxing, but I prefer the mountains. Also, there are no winter allergies out there, only spring and fall, which is a plus for all of those who suffer from allergies. The winter makes some blue, but I believe that the winter should be appreciated more than it is.
