Why I Will Not Be Voting This Year

Just part of my very unpopular opinion

Why I Will Not Be Voting This Year
Big On Sports

I've never been much into politics (mostly because I have morals and common sense) but the 2016 election has really caught my attention over the last few months. The hatred and tension that has stemmed from one person to the next, the negative news that is being spread through our nation like wildfire and the constant ads about Clinton and Trump are getting out of hand. I understand that this is what the election year is about, but there is a line between necessary and downright immature.

I have never been a fan of Donald Trump as a person, nor am I interested in him being our next president. His temper is not what we need controlling our White House and our country. Making promises and threats that you cannot keep is what politicians seem to do, but I feel that with the right people by his side, these crazy and heinous acts will end up being put into play. The discrimination he puts on the table is insane and there is no way to say that he is loving towards all races, genders, etc. Read interviews and listen to the inappropriate comments he makes, then you'll understand where I'm coming from. As a young woman and a large supporter of the special needs community, some of his comments disgust me. The way he objectifies women (even his daughter!) is nauseating. The only thing I can agree with is his views and problems with the education system.

To be completely honest, Trump isn't the biggest problem in his campaign; it's the supporters. I have never seen or heard any other group of people being so negative and rude (I'm not saying it's all of them, just a majority). I have read Trump supporters give death threats to anyone who doesn't agree, I've seen the most inappropriate and hurtful signs, and I've heard of small riots and fights break out because Trump rallies. Let me break the sad and true news to you: the only thing he cares about is your vote. He could care less about you as an individual, so calm down and work your differences out a little differently next time.

I do not have much to say on Hillary Clinton, except that her morals and ideas are not pure and that the American people deserve the truth. I don't feel that she deserves the hate that she gets for possibly being ill (we have had past presidents who were worse off and they did just fine), however I do not like that she cannot be trusted. I agree with her 2nd Amendment policy, but I do not agree with anything else. As I've said before, do your research before voting.

I know that it is my right as an American citizen to vote. I know that my opinions will be criticized and ignored because I do not plan on voting. However, one vote will not make a difference and I do not feel comfortable voting for someone who I do not trust. I will never tell someone their opinion is wrong, but I think it is important to see each side of the argument before you judge others for thinking differently than you.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
