In this day and age, it's pretty rare to find something that makes you giddy beyond words. This past weekend, America fell in love with the "Chewbacca Mom" otherwise known as Candace Payne.
For those of you who haven't heard of her, check out this video that put her on the map:
It's clear that in this video, she's just genuinely happy about this mask. She couldn't stop laughing and smiling, and that's amazing.
I first stumbled across this video while I was scrolling through Tumblr one night. I hit play with the awful intent of judging her. However, as the video went on, I realized I had no right to judge her because she found something that made her happy.
I immediately sent the video to my friends and one of them replied with, "I have never witnessed a more innocent joy in my entire life." That response made me smile because in a world full of hate this mom managed to find something that made her happy.
This mom was so happy over something so small and felt the need to share it with everyone in the hope that it might make other people smile, too.
Since the posting, she's been recognized on national news and late night shows. Kohl's, the store where she originally bought the mask from, also has been kind enough to donate gift cards and Kohl's extra bucks to Candace and her family.
How wonderful must it be to find joy in the smallest of things? Candace has gotten all of this recognition for being happy and joyful over something. For the most part, the general reaction to her has been a positive one. And rightfully so.
We need more people like Candace, people who find happiness in the simplest of pleasures. Don't be afraid to like the things you like in the fear of it not fitting a preconceived idea society has put on us. If you're 20 years old and still like to play with Barbie dolls, who cares? We all need something to make us happy, who cares what it is? (As long as it doesn't inflict harm on anyone.)
Candace Payne is a true inspiration and I have nothing but the upmost respect for her, for not being afraid to love what makes her happy.
