Why We Are Not Disney Princesses: We Are So Much More

Earlier this week I saw a picture that said, “You’re a Disney Princess who is just currently in the sad part of her feature film. It’s going to be okay.”

As I was reading this, I couldn’t help but question if I agree with it. You see, we are not Disney princesses, we are so much more. We may not have a glass slipper that will happen to fall off when you’re running down the stairs, but we are princesses because we are daughters of the Most High King!

Side note: First of all, if you’re running down the stairs in glass high heels, props to you for not tripping and falling. Second, if your shoes fall off that easily, you should probably get a smaller size.

As for the “who is just currently in the sad part of her feature film”, I disagree with this as well. Ladies, life is hard and we’ve all gone through hard times, but our redeemer is greater!

I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble, but take heart I have overcome the world

John 16:33 (NIV).

As Christ followers, we are not promised a problem free life. In fact, Jesus says that we will go through hard times and that the world will hate us because of our faith.

If the world hates you, keep in mind that it hated me first. If you belonged to the world, it would love you as its own. As it is, you do not belong to the world, but I have chosen you out of the world. That is why the world hates you

John 15: 18-19 (NIV).

Our struggles are not a “sad part in our feature film”, they are a stepping stone to who we are becoming in Christ. God sees our tears and our struggles and He is pained by watching us go through them. God is everything that is good in this world and it hurts Him to see us in pain. However, the beautiful thing is that He uses our pain and creates something incredible out of it. His grace and love transforms us to be righteous and whole through Him.

Yes, it’s healthy and needed to feel sad sometimes, but we can’t dwell in that. We must realize that our pain and afflictions are being used for something greater. They are being used to strengthen us and to contribute to the feature of God's almighty plan! So I ask you, my fellow princesses, not to dwell in your struggles, but to rise up and have faith that we are not in the sad part of our feature, but rather we are in training for our feature. The enemy will try everything in his limited power to kill, steal and destroy you, but the all-powerful God is using your struggles to strengthen you and prepare you for something that is far beyond yourself.

You are not merely a Disney princess; you are God's princess. That title and identity has far more superiority than a princess who sings about birds, books, or even evil step-mothers. We are princesses who sing about the one who created us and has given us His power through the Holy Spirit! We are princesses who rise up and put on the armor of God to prepare for the battle of our mind, body and spirit! Remember, the war is already won through Jesus’ sacrifice and it’s going to be okay.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Challah vs. Easter Bread: A Delicious Dilemma

Is there really such a difference in Challah bread or Easter Bread?

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
