As I was browsing YouTube, I came across a series of videos that really made an impact on me. I could not stop watching them. The series of videos is entitled, "Try Living With Lucie," and it stars a woman named Lucie Fink, a video producer, creative director, on-camera host, stop motion artist, Millennial spokesperson and social media influencer. She works for Refinery29, which is "a lifestyle platform that delivers nonstop inspiration to help women live a more stylish and creative life."
In the series, Lucie tries different lifestyle changes for five days and documents her journey as she experiences it. I found these videos extremely motivating to try new things, but one in particular stuck with me:
Five Days of Spending Time Alone | Try Living with Lucie | Refinery29
This video talks about one of my biggest fears: doing things I normally do with friends, alone. Even though the idea of doing any of these things alone is frightening, I want to challenge myself to try doing them all.
Lucie makes very valid points throughout the video. During her first outing alone she brings a book to the coffee shop, but realized that allowing herself to read is technically not being alone. I can completely relate because when I absolutely have to be alone, I rely on my phone or a book to distract me from the fact that I am not with anyone.
In the video, she says that "People are fearful of doing things by themselves because they are afraid of what others are going to think of them." This is so true in society today. We are all scared of what other people think of us and we let it hinder us from being our true selves.
Watching this video has inspired me to try some things on my own and learn to enjoy being by myself. I plan to do one thing a week by myself and document how it goes and what I learn about myself in the process. I want to get out of my comfort zone and experience some things without the influence of other's perceptions of me. As a college-age person, I feel that this will be a great way to find myself. Isn't that what you do in college?
Lucie has many other videos that could spark inspiration in you, so go check them out! I highly recommend the "5 Days on a $50 Spending Budget," as we are broke college students. She shows how expensive it truly is to provide for yourself.
Sometimes we need to break out of our routines we know so well and try new things. It does not have to be a drastic change. You could even just try waking up early one day a week, which Lucie has a video for as well.
I encourage you to embark on this journey with me as well, whether it is getting more sleep at night, waking up early, staying off social media, or going waste-free. You never know what you will find out about yourself; maybe you're a morning person and you just needed a kick-start! Stay tuned for my follow-up article about spending time alone.
