The birds are chirping, there's hand holding, flower giving and a whole lot of chocolate- which all only means one thing: Valentine's Day is coming up.
This is the day when millions of people all over the world express and share their emotions with their significant other. It's the perfect day for those who are in love and literally the worst day ever for everyone else. Valentine's Day for many is considered the one day of the year where they can lay around in their sweats, drowning in chocolate and binge watching the Hills on demand (my usual Thursday nights).
BUT GUESS WHAT, you are doing Valentine's Day wrong my friends. Valentine's Day is NOT depressing and I will tell you why. First of all, Valentine's Day itself was founded in the honor of a priest 72625827 years ago who married off soldiers who were forbidden to be wed and all that fun stuff. The day was built on the emotion of love. It was built on sacrifice, bravery and kindness. It was not brought about in the name of hearts, candy (doesn't hurt though) or feeling lonely on the 14th. No Valentine's Day was a day made to celebrate saint Valentine and more importantly to value and celebrate love. ~love is all you need~
This is the day to send out all those good loving feels to whoever you adore. Send it to your boyfriend, your girlfriend, your husband, your housemates, your sorority sisters, your favorite restaurant (that hansel is so hot right now), your dog or even your landlord...The point is, you are showing the people in your life who you care about, just how much you care about them. Make them feel loved, cherished and excited at the fact that you know what true love and friendship is. I love Valentine's Day. I love seeing couples disgustingly in love and I love seeing best friends sending each other rose grams. I love the hearts, the sentiments, the cards and flowers. With all the bad things happening in the world and no matter how stressful life can be, it is so important to recognize the people you love and all the who love you. Valentine's Day is not depressing, it's the perfect day to love and be loved.
This Valentine's Day I cannot wait to spread the love and more importantly go straight to target on the 15th for seriously discounted candy. Here's to love and Saint Valentine!
