There are moments when we look around and see all of these cute couples and think to ourselves, "I want that to be me." We all think of the day where we will fall in love with the perfect person. We all have moments when we wish we would be waking up next to someone. I am truly happy for anyone who is happy and in a relationship because I can't wait for that. But sometimes, it's hard being surrounded by all of these happy couples while you're single.
I am here to tell you that it is OK to be single.
1. You can be independent.
You don't have to ask anyone permission if it's OK to go out with your friends. You can do whatever, whenever. I also love doing things on my own. I hate asking people for help. Being single forces me to be stronger.
2. You can save your money.
You don't have to buy Christmas, birthday or anniversary presents. You also don't have to spend money going out on dates. Even if you don't save your money, at least you can spend it on yourself.
3. You have no one to impress.
You could wear a T-shirt or a hoodie everyday, and it would be fine. You also don't always have to shave your legs every day because who cares?!
4. You get to focus on yourself.
In college, it's easy to get caught up in a relationship. It's easy to get distracted. If you want to study abroad, you have no one holding you back in making that decision. You get to follow your dreams.
5. You can have more fun.
You can go out and talk to whoever you want to without someone else being jealous. You can hangout with your girlfriends every weekend if you want to. You can go out and not worry about a thing.
6. You can be happy by yourself.
One of the biggest lessons I've learned is to not depend on anyone to make you happy. It's important to make yourself happy. You can't depend on someone who's possibly temporary to make you happy.
7. You get to be your own best friend.
You can have all the "you time" you want. If you have to get ice cream by yourself, that's OK.
Most of the time being single is thought about in a negative way. When someone asks you if you're single, say yes with pride. Don't get me wrong, being in a relationship is great, but so is being single. Both have their pros and cons. Embrace being single. Enjoy having the chance to do whatever you want. There are benefits to being single. Finding a great relationship takes time, so wait and it'll come when it's time. Be single and love it, because it's OK.
