Why The Resting B**ch Face Is Completely Wrong

Perhaps, I don't need to smile at everyone.

Why The Resting B**ch Face Is Completely Wrong

I am not the most enthusiastic person on earth. I do not wake up every morning and thank the sun for shinning, wave at the flowers that I pass bye, and tell every single person that they are beautiful in every single way.

Usually, I walk to class with a stride that screams "I'm on a mission, gosh dangit, and I need to be somewhere", have headphones in my ears playing Drake's 'Jumpman' single, and hold my backpack like I am climbing the top of Mount Everest.

With every push and stride, I finally end up looking at my reflection in the windows and fine my absolutely welcoming face staring right back at me.

My "Resting B**ch face".

However, I feel like this term has evolved the wrong way for the past couple of trend seasons.

First of all, why is it called an RBF? I can't speak for others, but I don't think I'm a mean person. Now, I don't have a smile on my face 24/7, but I don't call people names, think bad thoughts, or curse people as they walk by me just for the heck of it. So, why is it considered a b**ch face?

Yes, I can understand that because my face is not as welcoming as other girls, but why is my face automatically categorized with a stereotype even before you know me. Did you ever think that my face is simply, my face?

I don't need to smile ALL THE TIME.

Just because I don't smile when I see a bird fly, the sun shine, a butterfly in the wind or a baby cry, does not make me a mean person. Perhaps, my face is just naturally serious.

Why are women categorized if they don't constantly smile? Why aren't men categorized the same way?

If a man has a serious resting face, he is seen as a Thinker, a wise man. If a man has a smiling resting face, he is seen as kind, compassionate and great with kids.

Not the same ball park for girls. Because you are not smiling, you must be a stuck-up brat, who didn't get her way and is now upset. Almost as if, every girl should have a smiling face because that's just what girls do.

Except, there is this one thing called, reality.

I don't like smiling at every single that passes me. I will not tell everyone they are beautiful. I will not smell every flower that comes my way. I will not smile when I don't feel like it.

Frankly, no girl should feel obligated to smile if they don't want to. I don't have a RBF because I know who I am. I am not a b**ch just because I don't want to smile. I am not mean just because I don't smile every time I pass a person on the street.

If I am looking forward, looking down, or totally lost in my own thoughts, don't automatically categorize any woman based off her eagerness to smile.

Some of us are just serious people and somethings are none of your business.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
