I am going to cut right to the chase here: the Internet is a blessing and a curse. Below are some examples that leave me shaking my head most of the time I use it.
1. Memes.
Now, please understand that I enjoy a truly funny and clever meme. I have an issue with the most recent one that is blowing up my newsfeed, remember "Arthur" the beloved children's character from Elwood City? Well, some person decided it was a cool idea to take Arthur scenes and turn them into inappropriate memes. If you want to see it, use Google because I refuse to re-post any of them. Creators of this atrocity: thanks for ruining my childhood memories, just stop. On the bright side (I'm a glass half-full person) the Mr. Krabs memes are losing popularity. I have truly seen it all, I guess I'll just have to scroll faster next time. Meme creators, if you are reading this, "Hey Arnold!" and "Dragon Tales" are off limits.
2. Filters.
They are everywhere, Snapchat, Instagram, you name it. I use them all the time, but now I ask myself a few things... is everything filtered? Do we see anything without an alteration? You know, the real color of the leaves, sunset or grass (without using the brightness tool.) The Snapchat ones are super fun at least. Side note: ladies, you are beautiful without the filter. Embrace those little blemishes and remember who you are.
3. The whole "well it's on the internet so it must be true" attitude.
"Do not believe everything you read, fact check." -says the girl who is big on conspiracy theories. Ironic, right?
4. The unnecessary drama.
Without internet access, we would not have social media, obviously. Facebook can be a place where the gloves come off, you may just share your political views and get attacked. 162 comments later, and a possible "defriend" situation is on your hands. High school drama, folks. Let's all get along and embrace the freedom of speech we are blessed to have. Maybe I should just rename this thread "My love/hate relationship with social media".
5. The people who are convinced they will have 10 years of bad luck, or be murdered at midnight because they didn't share a certain picture and follow the instructions.
I think you will be okay. That reminds me of another one, Bill Gates is not going to give you and 5000 others x amount of money for sharing that one post. How cool would that be though?
Well, that concludes my rant. Thanks for reading, on the Internet of all places!
