Why The Beach Is Awesome

Most everyone who has been to a beach knows it's one of the most relaxing vacations you can go on. Going to the beach is so serene. Just sitting there looking out to the big blue has so much peace to it. Beaches everywhere will be flooded with travelers this summer, and there are so many reasons why.

1. Its Beauty

Any beach I've ever been to is beautiful. I'm sure if you're an avid beach go-er you have your favorite beaches and the reasons why they are your favorite. But, to me, any beach is beautiful. The sand, the sun, the water crashing against the shore, shells all over, sea gulls flying, laughing kids; it all comes together to paint a gorgeous picture.

2. Its Mystery

Yes, I think the beach has some mystery to it. When I'm sitting there looking out into the ocean, there's just such a mystery to it. I mean, there are still depths of the ocean, and creatures of the ocean, that have yet to be discovered. It's a good kind of mystery though, not a scary one. So much is unknown about the ocean, but being on the beach looking out into the ocean, there's such a peace.

3. It's Fun

No matter what the sentimental value is to a beach, there's no mistake that one reason the beach is the best is because it's fun! You can do so much on a beach. Go for a walk, swim, go snorkeling, parasailing, go for a boat ride, and so, so much more. If you are not an adventurer, sitting there on a beach chair with your toes in the water, and a good book in your hand, is just as much as a good time than any adventure.

4. The Weather

The weather at the beach is perfect! It's usually sunny and it's hot, but not too hot because you have that constant sea breeze. If it rains, it's usually on and off rain showers or storms. Yes, there are rainy days, but when I've gone to the beach, I've gotten lucky. One minute it will be raining, the next the sun is shining again. And even if it's rainy, your on vacation, so there's other things you can do around town to wait out the storm.

5. The Food

For some reason food just tastes better when you're at the beach. Any food you get just has so much more flavor to it; maybe it's in my head, but there's just something about it. When you're on any vacation you can try so many new foods, and that's always fun to do. If you're a sea food person, of course it tastes better when you're on the beach. I mean, it's fresh sea food. What's better? Food is just great!

6. The Animals

Being from Northern Kentucky, you don't see many interesting animals. There are raccoons, deer, opossums, and squirrels. Those are what you mostly see. I'm an animal person. I love them. Being on the beach, you see so many different animals that you just couldn't see in Kentucky. There's starfish, different types of fish, and my favorite, dolphins. I love being able to sit on the beach in the morning and see the dolphins jumping in the distance.

7. Its Awe

Sitting on the beach and looking out, it's just so big. It makes you think about how big the world really is. When you look out to the ocean, it just goes on and on. It looks never-ending. It's a surreal feeling to be sitting there and seeing that. It makes you believe that there's so much to do in this world and it makes you want to go out and do it. Even if you are not too adventurous, seeing that big blue would make just about anyone want to go on some sort of adventure.

So, if you're going on a vacation this summer and your not considering the beach, here are all the reasons you should. It's beautiful, mysterious, fun, the weather is great, the food is great, the animals are cool, and it just makes you wonder. It's one of the most peaceful places on earth and it's breathtaking! What more could you ask for in a vacation?

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
