Thanksgiving, a day filled with football games, parades, friends, family, and plenty of food. While I have always loved birthdays, and Christmas and Halloween have always been my top two favorite holidays, Thanksgiving is right up there with them as well. There is just something about sitting at a table and sharing food with all my family members and just chatting about the latest news, or even just watching my mom and all her siblings and their spouses do their Secret Santa exchange, that has always made me feel so happy about life. Besides food, here are a few things that I am thankful for.
My Family
Sure, there is no such thing as a perfect family, I look at some of the people in my family sometimes and wonder how I could possibly share the same DNA as them. Regardless, I love every single person in my family, all of them have helped me grow and have shaped a bit of who I am today. Family is there always there for you, no matter what the situation may be. So, whether your sitting at a table meant for two or for twenty people, remember, to be thankful for the family that you have. I know I don’t know where I would be without mine.
My Friends
My friends have always been an important part of my life like my family. They have helped me through a lot of difficult times, especially during the school years, and they accept me for who I really am. My friends and I may not be blood related, but to me they are like my family as well, and I don’t know what I would do if I didn’t have them.
My Health
I may not be in perfect shape, but I’m healthy. I have all my limbs, I have the air in my lungs, and I am able to get up and go work. I am lucky that I have my both my hands and all my fingers to keep writing, and my eyes that let me see all my friends, my family, my dog, and the football games on TV.
So, don’t let Thanksgiving be the day that you, say “Oh I can’t eat that pie, it has too many calories." Be thankful to your body, and be thankful that you are able to sit down and enjoy this meal with your family, because there are some people in the world who are denied that.
My Freedom
I am always thankful for my freedom, and after such a heated election, I am especially thankful for it. I am certainly not thankful when someone brings up the election or politics in general, but at least I have the write to voice my opinion. We all have the freedom to share our dialogue, to love who we want, and to practice whatever faith we want in this country. In some places in the world people would be put in jail or sentenced to death for sharing their opinions. We should all be thankful in a place like the United States where we will not be persecuted for having differing opinions from others.
