Why Snapchat Is My Favorite Social Media Platform

It's much more than sending silly pictures to friends.

Snapchat, for those of you living under a rock, is a social media form for your phone. The app let’s you send short pictures and videos to friends for up to 10-15 seconds. A Snapchat Story works a little differently: the post stays up for exactly 24 hours, and ONLY 24 hours. Alright, now that you get the basics, let’s get into what’s REALLY great about it...

Staying in touch

Texting and phone calls can get tricky when you’re trying to communicate with people on the other side of the planet, or even across the same country. Snapchat makes it easy to communicate in a fun way!

It’s FREE!

The app is free and easy to use for all ages! I mean really, even my mom has it.

Boredom

When it seems there’s nothing else to do or you realize you haven’t played around with the new filters since the last update, Snapchat cures all.

Political

2016 being a U.S. election year, there’s lots of debates and topics to keep up with. Snapchat makes it easy for the younger generation to stay informed about political subjects! They have this feature on Snapchat that let’s you watch “live stories” of political debates or other presidential activities. Users can even contribute to these stories by submitting their own related clips.

Make better friends

Adding people you just met or wanting to become better friends with someone is possible with Snapchat. You get to see this person days you don't get to see them in real life. It's cool that you can get to know someone on a personal level, especially if you're not usually a people person.

Learn about places around the world

On the "LIVE" section of the app, you can watch clips from countries around the world that people from those places have sent in. You get to learn about traditional meals, places to visit and what a typical day is like from the locals themselves.

Celebrities in true form

Without anyone controlling or stop them from posting, we get to see what kinds of lives celebrities (and even internet famous people) live.

Discovering artistic abilities

You are able to draw and color on snapchats using your finger. Let me tell you, you'd be surprised what you can do with such a basic picture...and time...lots of free time.

Sports events

As well as seeing what people are doing throughout the day, different countries and political debates, you can also see game updates and how people at the game are supporting their favorite team!

All profiles are private

Unlike other social media sites like Facebook or Instagram, Snapchat is private. You're profile is not open for others to search and see unless your name is typed in and added.

An archive of memories

I hardly ever take pictures with my phone camera anymore. Honestly. I take pictures and videos through Snapchat because you are able to save everything you post to your phone's camera roll. It's even possible to save entire stories you've posted all at once. So if you had a great night full of friendship and laughter, you can save the clips all in one movie to have forever.

Embarrassing pictures

On the other side of things, you can screenshot and save silly, embarrassing photos your friends send you and use them later for a good laugh. Or just blackmail. That also works.

And of course,

The always inspiring, DJ Khaled

I couldn't NOT mention the King of Snapchat in an article about Snapchat. He shows us the keys to success in life and what a king eats for breakfast everyday. Without fail, DJ Khaled has inspired snappers around the world with his daily advice and mad gardening skills.

I hope you see now why I choose Snapchat over everything else. Live well and snap on, friends!

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
