There is Halloween. The holiday that everyone looks forward to because you can dress up as your favorite character and not feel like you are being judged for what you like. Aside from crazy fun costumes, you get tons of free candy! What could be better than that? However, after Halloween everyone starts their Christmas countdown. Don't get me wrong though, I love Christmas just as much as the next person. Singing with the family, good food, giving presents. But there is one holiday that people tend to forget and that's Thanksgiving. I get that people are so excited to receive their latest gift but let's be honest, the more countdowns that you have isn't going to make the time go by any quicker. So let's stop and take a break and let's look back on why Thanksgiving is just as good as any of the other holidays.
It's the first big chunk of time you get to spend with your family.
Going away to college has made me realize how much I miss seeing my friends, being able to drive anywhere, and eating good food. Thanksgiving is the first real break since classes have started that you can spend time with your family and not worry about the homework that is due the next day, or what test you have coming up.
FOOD. FOOD. FOOD.
I'm a picky eater, it's something I've finally had to admit to myself, but coming to college has definitely made me regret it. The number one reason why we shouldn't be forgetting Thanksgiving is because of the food that comes with it! No matter what there is, you can always find something for everyone. Whether its the carnivores digging into the meat, or the vegetarians loving the vegetables, and then of course the sweets that come.
It's a time to be thankful.
The thing that people tend to forget about, is that this holiday isn't meant for people to just indulge on food and lay in front of the fire, but it's also to be around the people that you care about and love the most. It gives you the chance to make amends with anyone that you would've had a fight with, or to bring together people you haven't seen in a while. It's a chance to be grateful for what you have.
Thanksgiving is a wonderful holiday, it's known as the peak for fall, with crisp and crunchy leaves, cool brisk air, and a chance to be thankful. So this holiday, don't just go home and stuff your face, or tell your parents what you want for Christmas. Talk to them, ask them how they have been since you've last seen them, how the rest of the family is doing. Thank them for the wonderful opportunities that they have given you to lead you up to where you are, and who you have become.
