Why You Should Be Watching The Women's World Cup

The 2015 Women's World Cup is well underway, and if you haven't been watching, don't worry -- the most exciting games are yet to come. Here are some reasons why you should tune in.

1. Because of the fashion.

One of the best parts of watching the game is when the cameras show the craziest fans (in our case, the American Outlaws) proudly representing their countries. Whether it's face paint, hats, capes or signs, you can never show too much support. If you go to a Big 10 school, chances are you've worn some pretty spirited outfits as well and can easily relate to the hype.

2. Because it's about time.

It's been 16 years since the U.S. Women's National Team has won the World Cup, and this year they're considered one of the favorites to win. The talent this year is amazing, including incredible players like Megan Rapinoe, Lauren Holiday, Alex Morgan and Carli Lloyd, along with soccer legend Abby Wambach, playing in her fourth and final World Cup. This could be the year, so wouldn't you like to say you watched history being made?

U-S-A, U-S-A!!

3. Because you "believe."

Admist the game and the announcers, you can still hear all the cheering from the fans, including the familiar and classic “I believe" chant. This chant has been heard during all the USA World Cup games, and it was big at soccer games at my own high school, but what you may not know is that it actually originated from the U.S. Navy.

I...I believe...I believe that...I believe that we...I believe that we will win

4. Because you can.

Since the World Cup is being played in beautiful Vancouver, Canada, the games will be on at times convenient for you! No time zone issues for you to use as an excuse. Plus, school's out! What else are you really doing?

5. Because I'm giving you notice.

I understand not wanting to see every game - I'll admit to only watching the U.S. games - so if you're like me but you have not watched at all yet, here's your chance... this Monday 6/22 at 8 p.m. the U.S. faces Colombia. This is especially exciting because one of Colombia's stars, Nataly Arias, was a fellow Terp. So while I'll be rooting for the U.S. I will be guilty of some Maryland pride.

Yes, I may be biased in convincing you to watch because my dad is over in Vancouver working really hard producing this major event, but seriously, turn on that T.V., you won't regret it!

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
