There are so many platforms on the internet right now that allow you to speak your mind and rant about whatever you please. From Facebook, Twitter, Tumblr, Wordpress, and so many others it is hard to pick just one. So why the Odyssey Online?
I didn't find the Odyssey Online, it found me. I received a message on my LinkedIn account (If you don't have one, you should make one. Your more adult self will thank you one day.) one day from a woman who wanted to start a community on Washington & Jefferson College's campus called the Odyssey Online and she was interested in my talents as a newspaper editor and writer. I was extremely interested. I tried to research the Odyssey Online but, I couldn't find ANYTHING. In my silliness, I just assumed that it was too good to be true spam mail and ignored it.
Over the summer I kept seeing more and more articles being shared from a website called the Odyssey Online. Remembering the email I was sent months ago I finally replied and applied to be a Creator.
Now, that's HOW I became a Creator but, this is WHY.
Ever since I was younger, I have had a passion for writing. It didn't matter what it was. Grocery lists for my mom, lists of all my Pokemon cards, names of my stuffed animals, strange fantasy short stories, edgy emo poems (come on, we all had that phase, right?), and so many others. I just love to write and to share my passion with others. That's exactly what I feel the Odyssey Online does.
The Odyssey Online helps college students share their voice and talk about what is really on our minds. Now, don't get me wrong we do post a lot of "Open Letters" and other cheesy articles but, if you sift through the white girl fluff we have some hidden gems lying around.
Those gems are what I am talking about. The meat and bones of this community and of our generation. I want my voice to be heard. Do you?
