After a summer away, you are more than ready to head back to school. Whether you spent it at home with mom and dad, working an internship in a new city, studying abroad, or taking classes, the thought of going back to school makes your heart pitter patter with pure joy. Here’s why going back to college as a returning student is the best feeling ever:
1. You already know people. Now that you’re back on campus, you’re starting to see some familiar faces again. That study buddy from chem lecture freshman year, the cute boy you always crossed paths with between classes on Tuesdays and Thursdays, your friends from that awesome club you joined in January; you name it, you’re excited to see them. The campus is electrifying with its pleasant, welcoming vibe. You likely already have a general friend group and you all can’t wait to get together for round two this year. Needless to say, everyone is thrilled to be back on campus and to see each other again.
2. You are much more familiar with the campus/town. Wasting time finding your way around is a thing of the past. You already know the best study places, the coffee shop with the best French Roast that will help you pull an all-nighter or two during finals, the most social hotspots in town, and the best restaurants for when parents are visiting. This also means you do not have to spend your time using Google Maps just to travel a quarter mile down the street to the library, or doing endless circles around town until you find the nearest CVS. Now, you become the person people go to for directions. You know what time the Au Bon Pain line won’t be too long. You’ve figured out that the eighth floor of the stacks is often the floor with the most available private study stations. Whatever the scenario, you’ve worked all the kinks out already so you can really get down to business this year.
3. You belong to something. Odds are, you are a part of some student organization on campus. Coming back, this provides you with a little community within the university; a group of people you’re particularly close to within the entire undergraduate population. Slipping into old traditions and shenanigans is just the beginning. The anticipation alone for everything in store for the upcoming year is enough to cause goose bumps.
4. It feels like you’re going home. The few summer months have felt like an eternity, but you can’t wait to get back into the old routine. College beings to feel like home now and it is the best feeling in the world.
