Our generation cannot maintain a relationship. We always wonder why. How can we love someone, yet loving them just isn't enough? There's a couple things that can impact how a relationship is - good, bad, or over.
First off, we need to put our phones down. Look into the one you loves eyes and just appreciate their presence. As a waitress I can't tell you how many couples I see sitting on their phones during date night! HELLO, look at the goddess sitting across from you! I know I'm guilty of being on my phone when with my lover from time to time, but there's nothing worse than talking to someone who is too zoned out on their cell phone to even notice, especially at dinner. There is plenty of time for us to be on our phone, but when someone is excited and happy to tell you about their day or news they got or anything, put the phone down. This doesn't just go for romantic relationships either, any person would be upset by this.
I have realized that sometimes I just need to put my phone down and ask how his day was, what made him smile, or even just sit next to him. I can tell you it's mainly our generation because when I go to my boyfriend's house at night, his parents have their phones on the kitchen counter, not even close to them. This is how we all should be when we are surrounded by the one who is most important to us. No matter how many likes we get, nothing compares to the love you receive from that special someone.
Another problem I have noticed is things change as soon as the comfort sets in. All I can say is, the effort should never stop. I'm the kind of person buys anything and everything that reminds me of my significant other. I can't help myself. I also love giving random gifts and just doing "just becauses" regardless of the fact that I am now comfortable with my boyfriend. I still surprise him with random things, notes, and I even surprise him with myself. Once you have found your person, do your best to try to make them want to stay. By stopping all efforts, you are doing nothing but pushing them away and making them wonder if you still care.
A lack of communication is the biggest argument starter. Texting is not a great way to communicate something you are feeling because you cannot read tones. Although you may be sending it calmly and thinking it's no biggie to the one reading it, they might not take it the same way. When it comes to talking about something you're feeling or even asking, it's best to call or communicate in person. When two people aren't on the same page, feelings can get hurt. Something harmless can turn into a blowout because what? We were too lazy to pick up the phone.
The lesson to be learned is if we want a relationship to work, we have to actually maintain some effort. It can't just stop because we got too comfortable. Otherwise, you might end up pushing the one who could be your future into the past.
