In today’s world, many people avoid relationships and feelings like they are the black plague; to be avoided at any cost. Relationships are looked at as a restriction of your freedom; you are being tied down, and you are giving up everything fun. However, healthy relationships are not a restraint and are something special between you and your significant other. I feel that many of us are looking at relationships from the wrong perspective and are forgetting the beauty in them. You may just need a reminder, so here it is: why relationships and having a significant other is actually the best.
1. Going Out To Parties
Going out to parties with your significant other is the best, hands down. You always have someone to dance with when your favorite song comes on the speakers. You have someone to take pictures with when you’re both sweaty, but grinning ear to ear from having a blast and laughing the whole time. The best part is at the end of the night when you walk home, hand in hand, with someone you trust and don’t have to worry about some random person in your room. (Bye, rando).
2. Your Strong Shoulder
When you’re in a relationship with someone, you are there for them through the good times and the bad times. This means being their shoulder to cry on when they are going through something that upsets them. Being there for someone and having someone there for you is an incredible feeling. It helps you mentally and emotionally being able to go to someone with your problems, knowing they have your best interest in mind.
3. Your #1 Fan
Your significant other is there to cheer you on when you’re doing your best and especially when you need a boost of confidence. When you are feeling down, deflated and ready to give up, they give you a reality check and encourage you to keep moving forward. They support you and encourage your growth as an individual. They don’t let you give up because they care and want you to succeed.
4. Real Life Teddy Bear
When you are having a really god awful day, your significant other is there to help you by providing hugs, affection, cuddling or even just a phone call to take the stress away. Just laying in their arms and watching a movie of choice or talking on the phone about your day can do wonders for your mood. After some time, you feel a lot better. Just their presence brings comfort and relief.
5. A Best Friend
Of course, you have your best friends of years, but your partner is one of your best friends as well. They are someone you can be a complete weirdo around without judgement. You can tell them all of your secrets and gossip from your week and they do the same. They are honest when you need it and are open about everything. They know how you like your coffee and what you order from the pizza shop. They know you too well. (Sometimes TOO well).
6. A Target
When you’re close with someone they ultimately become a target for your jokes, random photos and nonlegitimate insults. It comes with the title of significant other that they will be sniped by your camera and a victim of your odd sense of humor. But hey, they signed up for it right? (Plus you’re a target for them as well, incase you started to feel bad for them).
7. Adventure Partner
Say, you and your partner are laying in bed, and something comes up about something random, about an adventure and how you want to go somewhere. They are already down with it and asking what the plan is. (Even if the “adventure” is going to McDonald's at 12:15 a.m. for McNuggets or 7/11 for an Arizona Ice Tea; an adventure is an adventure, OK?)
8. TV Show Accomplice
Who else is better to get addicted to a ridiculous TV show with than your significant other that you are constantly hanging out with? No one, nope. You can discuss the show in depth with excitement and at times get on each other's bad side when one goes ahead in the show. (Oops. Sorry Babe.)
9. Your Person
This is your person that you share a bond with. This bond is unique from every other relationship experienced out there. They get you and you get them on a whole different level. It’s a strange thing to describe unless you have experienced it. You love and adore them to such an unbelievable extent, no matter how annoying or grumpy they may be. You may not like them at times, but you love them anyway. You know why? Because they are your person and they mean the world to you.
Relationships are incredible things to build and maintain. You have someone that is so many things to you and the most amazing part is that you are the same for them as well. Your partner is supposed to love you and lift you up. Relationships aren’t supposed to be painful or a restraint. You are not restricted or prevented from experiencing things; you are just experiencing them along side with someone you love. You are growing as a person with your significant other, and I think that’s beautiful.
