In todays society it is impossible to scroll through any social media platform and not see a selfie. Selfies have become increasingly popular in my generation. I have posted at least one selfie a month since I’ve had social media. I believe that most people post selfies because like Queen Bee says people are feeling themselves. They are looking good, their hair is perfect, their makeup is done fabulously, and their OOTD (outfit of the day) is on point.
Selfies are also a way of people expressing themselves. There is usually a quote, lyrics, or words of wisdom captioning the selfies. This helps give insight into how that person is feeling that day or what their selfie is reflecting. Not everyone posts selfies for the likes, or hearts that they could possibly receive. They post the selfie because they need a new profile picture or to let their friends and family know that they are doing alright.
Selfies are a powerful tool, they tell a story, reflect an emotion, or help boost someone’s confidence. There are times when I will post a selfie because I need a little boost from the likes and hearts on my photo. I am not looking for attention but simply a thumbs up that the way I look is okay to look at. So when I am scrolling through social media I will take the second to like or heart your selfie. If I can help boost your self-confidence then my job is done.
I will take the time to help others see themselves how I see them. I like your selfies because I like your face and I enjoy seeing it on my newsfeed. Seeing others selfies make me happy, I will sometimes even comment on the photos but it is more the likes that I feel make the difference. If I could like all the selfies on Snapchat my life would be complete.
Posting selfies takes courage and that deserves recognition from everyone. Yes, some of the girls I have on social media are so much prettier than I am and yes, I do get envious of how they look but they deserve as much love on their selfies as anyone. I don’t count likes and I don’t base how I feel off of how many likes I have but when I scroll through my notifications and I see that my friends like my selfies it makes me smile.
Making someone smile is as easy as liking their selfie and that is why I refuse to scroll past your selfie without liking it.
