If you are a member or alumni of a Greek fraternity or sorority you have most likely heard the term Pan-Hel love or “PanHellenic love". For those of you who have not heard this term, it means the love and support that Greek organizations should have for one another. The Greek community, unfortunately, has accumulated a bad reputation in some respects. These stereotypes are in reality usually false and harmful to the Greek community as a whole. Since this community is discriminated against, at times, it is essential that each and every Greek organization supports one another so that we can fight these prejudices together and show the world how strong and positive the Greeks truly can be!
We all work towards common goals so why not help and support each other? A surefire way to support another chapter at your school is to attend their percentage nights and philanthropy events. We all understand how important philanthropy is to our own chapters and, therefore, how important it is to other chapters as well. Philanthropy events are almost always fun! You get to spend time with your sisters or brothers while helping out another chapter and that is a true gift on both ends (a win-win really). Not to mention the effort that goes into planning philanthropy events shouldn't go to waste. The creativity and fun are all geared towards a good cause so get out there and support your fellow chapters! On a side note, percentage nights often include eating food and I know that's something we all love to do.
Social events are also a great way to express your Pan-Hel love! Whether it be a sister sorority event or Homecoming with a sorority and a fraternity, attending events is a great way to show how much you care about the other chapters on your campus. Again a lot of time, money, and heartfelt planning usually goes into these events so it is important to show the other chapter it is genuinely appreciated! Social events are always fun and a great way to get to know members of other chapters you may not have known if it weren't for these awesome social events.
If you see another Greek doing something good whether it be running for student council, starting her own business or putting on a fun event on campus you should always jump to help and support them in their efforts. Like it is said, we are all part of a community and it is crucial that we stick together rather than against each other. Even after graduation, when meeting fellow members of a chapter (whether it be your own or another) that bond of Pan-Hel love should still be strong and alive. As we all know being a part of a chapter is a life long commitment and Pan-Hel love does not end after graduation…as stated in one of my favorite quotes “From the outside looking in you can't understand it, and from the inside looking out you can't explain it."
Pan-Hel love is: individually unique but together complete.
