If I were to rewind and look back at my life before I decided on which college I was going to attend you probably would've heard the words, "If I am going to pay out of state tuition for school I better be going somewhere cool." Somewhere cool meant somewhere in a different environment than the midwest. Maybe somewhere near the mountains, maybe somewhere in a big city or maybe somewhere near the Ocean. I would have never imagined I would be paying out of state tuition to go to school in Iowa.
Most people don't hear Iowa and think "WOW THAT'S SUCH A COOL PLACE"
I never did.
But I do now.
Someday I do hope to live in those environments that are so different than the midwest because it would be cool to experience those, but somehow Iowa is the right place for me to be for my four years of college. And you know what? I love going to school in Iowa.
Although I wish I didn't have to pay out of state tuition, I made the sacrifice to do so so I could go to school in Iowa. I adore Iowa State University and the environment of a huge school in a smaller city. Iowa State University fits the image of a "true American college" in pretty much all of its aspects and settings. It's one of my favorite places and Iowa will always have a special place in my heart because of it.
Although I do miss the state I was born in and coming home to it always warms my heart, Iowa is becoming a second home to me. I'm so glad I ended up here, even though I never thought I would've.
There are so many places in the world that you probably have no interest in right now, but you can't just kick them out of your options because they could end up being one of the best places for you someday. I toured a dozen schools and then I decided, hey let's give Iowa a chance. That was my last college tour and the place that I instantly knew that I was meant to go to.
Some of the best things really are the things you least expected.
