School can be stressful, but for most of us, it is stressful. Those late night study sessions, those mini panic attacks throughout the week, and those headaches we give ourselves over minute details is something we all have to deal with at some point. However, what is important to remember is: it's not the be all or end all. Taking on too much stress and not giving our minds a clean break once in a while is what destroys our mental health. While physical health is important, it's our mental health that really keeps us afloat and in-turn, is what aids in keeping our physical health in shape. Learning how to deal with stress is one of the most important things a student can do while in school. In order to paint a better picture, here are a few ways you can keep your mental health in check:
Managing Time
Being able to prioritize your time comes with a great deal of organization. First comes learning how to organize your thoughts. Whether it's writing down what needs to be accomplished that day or that week, making a list helps. And whats better than writing it all down in a planner -- with a built in calendar?? (Yep, they have those now).
Take a Break, Have Some Fun
Constantly worrying about homework and exams are part of being a student, but no one said that you couldn't give yourself some time to relax. So, read that book you haven't been able to get to, or go see that movie you've been wanting to watch since it came out! Give yourself a mental break from all the stressors of school and do what you love, because giving your mind a clean break once in a while will help when you eventually have to get back to the daily grind.
Find Your Hobby
When things get tough, having something you love to do can be a great stress relief. Whether that be reading a book, writing in your journal, or whipping out your favorite coloring book (come on, no one is too old for coloring!) , it can put your mind at ease. Express your feelings in a journal, or though art, but whatever you do, enjoy it.
Mental health is one of the most important things in children and adults.
