Why Our Generation Sucks

Living in a society where certain "social norms" are acceptable, we often times do not realize the harm that they are doing to us as a whole.

Why Our Generation Sucks

Our generation is filled with a bunch of nonsense. We don't follow traditional values, we take everything for granted, and we are a bunch of entitled, less than hardworking individuals. We expect $15 an hour for working behind a McDonald's counter, yet won't go out and look for a job that will better our future. We idolize celebrities like the Kardashians who contribute nothing to the world, yet don't care about the ones who do good for our society. We don't care about our ecosystem; it's the last thing on anybody's mind! We are focused on going out and drinking every single weekend, yet think staying home is the worst thing that could happen.

Girls are wearing next to nothing -- since when did a thong become acceptable in any environment! Then, they expect respect from men when they give nothing to respect. Men use girls for sex, go for women who are easy, yet reject women who "cover up" more. Oh, and covering up means wearing a full shirt, but god forbid anybody should do that when crop tops are the fashion. Terms such as "plus size" and "normal size" are a trend, who gives anybody the right to label another person's body? If you're not a size two, you're considered too big. If you don't look a certain way, society judges you. As a whole, we care far more about what others are doing, and not what we are doing. There are no more leaders of groups, only followers who go off of each other's own stupid ideas.Teens, even young adults, concern themselves with drugs like "Molly" because hey! It's the cool thing to do at festivals! We curse like sailors, and there's never not an appropriate time to drop an F-bomb. Terms like "thot" are well understood, but how many adolescents can differentiate between the terms "you're" and "your."

Our biggest social platforms are Facebook, Twitter, Snapchat, and Instagram, where we think others care about what we have to share. Self-worth is valued on how many likes your over filtered selfie will get, and cyber bullying is the new norm. Obviously trashing someone on the internet, a public entity that anybody can see, is a great morale booster! Nothing is left to secrecy anymore, as we feel the need to share everything to make ourselves look good. Our biggest threat is blocking someone, and we get offended when that happens. Friendships are best kept through the ways of social media, obviously! We get offended at everything, and if a popular opinion isn't met, we verbally trash the unpopular ones. Relationship goals are seen as posting a picture online, or paying for dinner for your significant other. Things that should be a given are far too much taken for granted. Nobody seems to respect one another, and that is the socially acceptable standard that everybody goes by. We would rather go out with a group and sit on our cell phones than actually talk to the people that we are with.

Enough is enough.

Generation Z truly disappoints me, and I am sorry for living in a society that allows this kind of behavior. I hope as a whole this all can stop being a stigma that is followed. To the generations before us, I personally want to apologize for the actions of us as a whole. I am no stranger to some of these things listed above, but as an adult, I am trying my best to fix them. I think it would do everyone good to do better for not only those around them but for themselves. Our generation truly needs a wake up call now that we are no longer teenagers, and I hope that for the future, the people we will be raising some day, these standards can be a little higher. They and we deserve better than this.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
