Why Opposite Friends Attract

To my opposite,

Without you, I would never have learned that sometimes I can’t always be the voice of reason. You taught me that it’s perfectly okay to be irrational from time to time and that confidence is the prettiest of all qualities. You inspired me to stop taking “no” as an answer and to demand more positive responses because you knew that I deserved them.

I listened to you freely voice your opinions and not care about who was going to judge you for it. I heard all of your outrageous stories where you somehow managed to get your way. I learned that when you loved someone, you were loyal to them; and you have been so loyal to me.

When I needed honest advice and someone to tell me exactly what I didn’t want to hear, you were there. There were situations that I probably wouldn’t have dealt with had I not had you telling me exactly what I needed to do and making me feel guilty when I didn’t listen. I always wanted to be reasonable and give everyone the benefit of the doubt, but you taught me that sometimes, people can only have one – maybe two – chances to hurt you before you need to cut them off.

This relationship hasn’t been one-sided either. Sometimes, it’s you coming to me for the sensible decision-making. When there have been situations where you weren’t sure how to or even if you should react, I was there with the advice. Sometimes I was merely reciting the things that you had once told me, and sometimes I was trying to reason out your options the way I once did about everything.

We have never bickered and never fought. I truly believe it’s because you’re my opposite, and opposites are supposed to attract, right? We may go months without seeing each other, but we easily pick up right where we left off. I know that there are so many things that we have in common, but we have had differing areas of strengths that have helped us grow closer as friends. For that, I’m truly grateful.

I love you for all that you are – strong and outgoing, independent and outrageous, confident and beautiful.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
