Why One Tree Hill Was the Greatest TV Show of All Time
If you follow a lot of my articles, it’s common knowledge that I’m a total TV show junkie. Netflix is a way of life for me, and it’s what I waste my free time on. That being said, I have seen countless series that have provided entertainment in my life. One of my favorites is none other than the early 2000’s hit, One Tree Hill. The show, which premiered in 2003, is still watched and loved by many to this day. Here’s why the show is classified as one of the best shows out there.
There were two VERY attractive brothers.
When you find out someone has seen the entire series usually the first question is, “Team Nathan or Team Lucas?” Both actors, James Lafferty and Chad Michael Murray, are both attractive and were gracing covers of Tiger Beat magazine at the time. To this day they still have the timeless sex appeal that kept viewers wanting more from both brothers.
The two main female roles were great role models for girls.
Not only were Brooke and Peyton the best of friends, they were so different that it allowed viewers to choose which character they idolized and who’s path they wanted to follow. If you were Team Peyton you were all about the artsy, rebellious side that she empowered. You identified as your own person who wasn’t afraid to put yourself out there and try new things. If you identified as Brooke you were all about keeping up with your social status, not afraid to tell people off in order to prove your loyalty to your friends, and you thrived in everything you did. The two girls proved that high school friends can last a lifetime and that we can always better ourselves as we get older.
The show proved that family is everything.
The entire series was centered around the family dynamics of a man who fathered two children with different moms. His brother who participated in the upbringing of his neglected son proved that you really can pick your friends and not your family. By the end of the entire series, the group of friends that were remaining in Tree Hill was no longer just friends. They were one big happy family who spent every important milestone of each other’s lives together.
Tree Hill was a town you wanted to live in.
You wanted to live in the small town that was known as Tree Hill where everyone knew your family, you all hung out at the mall together, you all ate at the same diners and went to every sporting event (specifically basketball) that the school had going on that night.
The number of famous celebs that guest starred was unreal.
Kid Cudi, Sheryl Crow, Fall Out Boy, and none other than Gavin Degraw had appearances on the show. Some of them had prolonged parts on the series like Pete Wentz who ended up dating Peyton for a period of time. Looking back at the beginning of the series, you’re reminded how big of a deal Sheryl Crow really was.
Naley was the epitome of relationship goals before it was a term.
No one has ever had a problem with Nathan and Haley. Ever! The two kids that met in opposite social spectrums in high school proved that the odds which weren’t in their favor didn’t stand a chance between the two. Getting married in high school seemed unrealistic but somehow it worked. By the time their second child was born you knew there was absolutely NOTHING that could stand in the way of this dynamic duo. Though they had their fair share of dramatic experiences, at the end of the day you were always rooting for them and their marriage.
You cried like a baby during multiple episodes.
The school shooting, Peyton’s brother/stalker, Dan shooting Keith (spoiler alert), Jamie’s kidnapping, Peyton’s biological mom dying, and Quentin’s death. These made you curl up in a ball and question why you watched this series and dedicated your time to these characters. The answer was simple. This became your family and you couldn’t help but watch and support them until the end.
You supported Brooke until the end.
Brooke Davis may have been a bitch in the beginning seasons, but she came around and made a name for herself. You couldn’t help but feel proud of her for overcoming her psychotic mother, being rich and successful by 22, and having twin babies against all odds with the man of her dreams. Lucas Scott was right when he said that Brooke would change the world. And she really didn’t know it yet.
