Lately, I have seen lots of videos and photos that are shaming girls for wearing makeup, calling us insecure, or doing a 180, and putting on their makeup in a way that makes them look drastically different from how they look without it.
Personally, I love makeup. It does give you a confidence boost, and it's so much fun to put on. Putting on makeup isn't a hassle; I love mixing eyeshadows, and applying different color eyeliners, and doing all those things. My favorite thing to get for any occasion is new makeup, (currently awaiting the Urban Decay's Naked Smokey Eye Palette. I love Urban Decay and Too Faced.) But all makeup makes me super happy, so I buy anything you can pick out at Walmart or CVS.
Makeup is used for cover up, that's the purpose of foundations, and concealers, and everything else make to cover up zits, dark circles, and even if your cat claws your face (mine do), it helps cover up scratches and other things.
I am nowhere near as good as some of these people doing their makeup, where they completely transform their face, or they do these amazing eyeshadow tutorials; I can't do that, but I still love my makeup.
The point of makeup, in my opinion, is for you to love yourself. When I apply makeup, I do it for me; I don't do it so I can impress some guy, or my friends. I know I don't wake up every morning and slap makeup on my face to impress people. It makes me feel good, and accomplished, like I've done something other than just roll out of bed and drag myself to class. Putting on real clothes and makeup makes my day go smoother, and makes me feel more organized and awake and ready to do whatever it is I have to do.
If you hate makeup, or don't like wearing it, or don't like the dramatized look, that's perfectly okay, and you're probably saving a ton of money by not buying eye-shadow palettes, like I do, with every paycheck. Instead of shaming girls for loving makeup, remember that most of them put it on for themselves because it makes them happy, or it gives them a confidence boost when they aren't feeling good enough. We don't do it to "catfish" boys into thinking that we are something we are not (okay, some of us do). But if you are anything like me, and most of us girls, you're doing it for yourself, because you love makeup, and because you love yourself.
So, if you want to go out on a Tuesday to class wearing smokey eyes, do it. If you want to go out on a Friday night wearing hardly any makeup at all, do it. Do your makeup the way you want, when you want. If it makes you happy, do it. It doesn't matter what anyone else is saying.
